Summary: Newly discovered adakitic granite dikes in the Sumdo area of Tibet exhibit unique geochemical characteristics that suggest a subduction event involving the Sumdo Paleo-Tethys Ocean during the middle Permian. The rocks were derived from partial melting of subducted oceanic slab, with influences from slab-derived fluids and slight interaction with peridotite in the mantle wedge during ascent. Zircon U-Pb dating yielded ages of 269.1 +/- 4.1 and 266.4 +/- 2.0 Ma for the rocks.

Summary: This study focuses on the deformation, metamorphism, and geochronology of key rocks in the Sumdo area of the Tibetan Plateau to understand the tectonic evolution of the Tethys Ocean and the geodynamic mechanism of eclogite exhumation. Two main stages of deformation were identified, associated with different types of eclogites. The spreading of the Bangong-Nujiang and Indus-Yarlung Zangbo Tethys Oceans led to the closure and subduction of the Sumdo Tethys Ocean.

The proposed approach is applied to a railway bridge in China for rockfall hazard evaluation.

Summary: This study investigates the carbonation mechanism of serpentinite after serpentinization by analyzing carbonated serpentinite samples from the Manlay ophiolite in southern Mongolia. It is found that carbonation occurs at temperatures lower than 300°C and is likely derived from the degradation of organic material or methanotrophic processes. Batch-type experiments reveal that carbonation of olivine followed by Ca-rich fluid infiltration can produce calcite in carbonated serpentinite and significantly affect the global carbon cycle.
