Summary: This paper investigates the influence of in situ crystallization of aluminum borate whiskers on the microstructure and mechanical properties of electrocorundum and microcrystalline alumina glass-ceramic porous composites. The results show that the crystallization process varies in both composites, affecting their microstructure and mechanical properties. An increase in mechanical tensile strength of 36% was observed for both composites, with the highest tensile strength depending on the type of abrasive grain and the amount of whisker precursor added. Furthermore, a significant increase in Young's modulus values was observed for composites containing 40 wt% precursor: by 45% for electrocorundum and by 52% for microcrystalline alumina.

Summary: A novel two-step method was developed to join SiC ceramics using CLAS glass as the joining material, significantly improving wettability and interfacial bonding strength. By pre-oxidizing the SiC surface, the formation of a SiO2 layer enhanced the wetting behavior of the glass solder, resulting in a nanoscale eutectic structure in the joint seam and an optimal shear strength of 127 MPa achieved at 1240 degrees C, 119% higher than the one-step joining method.

Summary: The surface roughness and shear bond strength of different glass-ionomer-based materials with and without thermal cycling are evaluated. Among the materials tested, BA exhibits the best performance, while GC shows the highest surface roughness and lowest shear bond strength. FJ, KM, and BA are suitable materials for clinical use, but further improvement is needed for the long-term performance of GC cement.

Summary: This study aims to develop and characterize a hybrid interface between yttria-stabilized zirconia and a silica-based nanofilm to improve the bonding performance with veneering ceramic. Specimens were treated with different surface treatments, and the surface wettability and shear bond strength were evaluated. The results showed that alumina particle abrasion treatment improved the shear bond strength but decreased the wettability of the specimens.

Summary: The study focused on using 50Bi2O3-45B2O3-5Al2O3 (BBA) glass for brazing ZrO2 ceramic. The glass showed good wetting ability on ZrO2, with a contact angle of 20.1 degrees at 750 degrees C. The glass achieved successful bonding in the temperature range of 635-750 degrees C for 30 minutes. The joint contained Al4B2O9 whiskers at 635 degrees C, both Al4B2O9 whiskers and Al5BO9 crystals at 650-700 degrees C, and predominantly Al5BO9 crystals at temperatures above 700 degrees C. The maximum shear strength of 75 MPa was obtained when brazing ZrO2 at 675 degrees C. Al4B2O9 whiskers and Al5BO9 crystals hindered crack propagation and improved joint performance, but excessive products could negatively impact the mechanical properties of the joint.

Summary: This study evaluated the effect of surface treatments and adhesion conditions on the long-term use of 3D printing polymers in bonding with resin cements. The optimal adhesion condition for UDMA was achieved with APA and SBU treatments followed by the use of U200 cement, while the adhesion conditions had no significant effect on Bis-EMA. After thermocycling, the SBS significantly decreased in UDMA without APA treatment and in the entire Bis-EMA group. Surface porosity and increased roughness were observed on both material surfaces after APA.

Summary: The study evaluated the effectiveness of five different polishing systems on polymer-infiltrated ceramic-network restorations using atomic force microscopy and visual assessment. Results showed that all polishing treatments significantly reduced surface roughness and area compared to the control. Ceramic and composite polishing systems produced similar results to a company proprietary system, with BCer group rated as the best by dental students and faculty members.

Summary: This paper evaluates the effect of plasma treatment on the shear bond strength and failure mode of resin cement/composite on the surface of ceramic materials. The results show that cold atmospheric plasma treatment using helium and H2O gas can increase the bonding strength of feldspathic porcelain, and cold atmospheric plasma treatment using helium gas may also be a potential treatment method for zirconia and other ceramics. The use of helium gas in cold atmospheric plasma treatment has the advantages of non-toxicity, low temperature, and short treatment time.

Summary: Laser polishing was used to improve the surface properties of alumina ceramics by reducing the surface roughness. A response surface experimental design scheme was used to establish a mathematical model and optimize the process parameters for laser polishing. The results showed that the optimized parameters led to significant improvements in surface roughness, wear resistance, and hardness.

Summary: The study compared the bacteria debridement efficacy of the first and second generations of sonic root canal irrigant activation systems. The results showed that activation of 2% NaOCl with either EndoActivator or SmartLite Pro EndoActivator significantly reduced the overall intracanal bacterial load compared to syringe-side-vented needle delivery. However, delivering 2% NaOCl for 5 minutes using the syringe-side-vented needle produced better bacteria debridement than either sonic agitation system.

Summary: The study compares the experience of patients seen using teledentistry with traditional Orofacial Pain and TMD visits. Results indicated a borderline difference in effectively using teledentistry for follow-ups among different age groups, but no significant differences were found in patients' experience between virtual and conventional visits. This suggests that high-quality dental care services can be provided remotely without adversely affecting patient experience or quality of care.

Summary: This study characterized the surface topography and evaluated the biological responses of various cells to a novel 3D-printed dental implant. The surface of the implant showed a highly interconnected porous architecture and roughness, leading to good adhesion and growth of human oral osteoblasts, gingival fibroblasts, mesenchymal stem cells, and monocytes. These findings suggest that this 3D-printed implant has excellent potential for clinical applications.
