Summary: HLH is rare among IBD patients treated with biologics, with most cases having identifiable infection or malignancy at diagnosis and a history of immunomodulator use. Survival rate is 70%, with risk factors possibly including younger age, male gender, Crohn's disease, and treatment induction phase.

Summary: Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) is a rare and life-threatening immune dysregulation disease. Patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) have an increased risk of developing HLH due to immunosuppressive therapy and viral infections. However, data on the association between IBD and HLH is limited.

Summary: The case describes a 16-year-old boy with MIS-C and severe inflammatory bowel disease. Treatment with a combination of steroids, intravenous immunoglobulin, and infliximab led to symptom resolution over a 3-week period. Emphasizing the need to investigate the impact of COVID-19 and MIS-C on inflammatory disorders.

Summary: This paper provides a comprehensive overview of the pathogenesis and therapeutic approaches for inflammatory bowel diseases. The interaction between the enteric and central nervous systems and the role of the vagus nerve in autoimmune diseases are highlighted. Neuroprosthetic stimulation of the vagus nerve, particularly transcutaneous stimulation of the auricular branch, has been suggested as a potential therapeutic approach for controlling intestinal inflammation.

Summary: Chronic intestinal failure, a rare complication of Crohn's disease, can greatly impact quality of life and treatment options include home-based parenteral nutrition and intravenous infusion. However, 60% of patients may need lifelong reliance on parenteral nutrition, and promising new drugs have brought new dimensions to therapy.

Summary: Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a chronic, immune-mediated condition of the gastrointestinal tract, which significantly reduces quality of life in pediatric populations. Physical symptoms such as abdominal pain and fatigue are accompanied by mental and emotional distress, leading to poor body image and low self-esteem. Diagnosis and treatment of mental health problems in pediatric IBD patients can improve adherence to treatment and reduce long-term morbidity and mortality.

Summary: Endoscopic therapy has become the main treatment for inflammatory bowel diseases and associated complications, such as strictures, fistulas, abscesses, bleeding lesions, and polyps. The development of interventional IBD is supported by a better understanding of the disease process, advancements in endoscopic technology, and the training of next-generation specialists.

Summary: Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) is a chronic autoimmune disease characterized by intestinal inflammation. The incidence of IBD is rapidly increasing in newly developed countries, making it a global concern. Two major types of IBD, ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn's disease (CD), have different manifestations and locations of inflammation in the digestive tract. Current FDA-approved treatments for IBD are only effective for 50% of patients and come with serious side effects, highlighting the need for safer and more effective therapies. Plant-based diets, such as the Mediterranean diet rich in anti-inflammatory phytochemicals, have shown benefits in preventing and improving symptoms of IBD. Terpenes, a class of phytochemicals abundant in Mediterranean herbs and citrus fruits, have been studied for their potential to modulate inflammatory signaling in IBD. However, there is still conflicting and inconclusive evidence regarding their effectiveness. This review evaluates preclinical studies on terpenes and their impact on basic inflammatory signaling in IBD.

Summary: Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a chronic inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract, which can be diagnosed through endoscopy and biopsy. However, these methods are expensive and invasive, so alternative noninvasive biomarkers are being explored for disease management and prognosis.

Summary: The incidence of CD in CF patients is about 1.4%, with common symptoms being poor weight gain and fatty stools before CD diagnosis. Symptoms usually improve after starting a gluten-free diet._CFTR dysfunction has been suggested to increase susceptibility to CD, and CF patients with persistent gastrointestinal symptoms despite treatment should be screened for CD.

Summary: The nutritional status of patients with primary immunodeficiencies (PID) was evaluated in this study. Malnutrition was found to be common among PID patients, with chronic, acute, and mixed-type malnutrition detected in a significant portion of the patients. Hospitalization history was inversely related to body mass index and weight for age Z-scores, and patients with malnutrition had daily caloric intake below requirements.

Summary: The cytokine profile in gingival crevicular fluid and serum of pediatric inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) patients was evaluated, with 50 IBD patients and 21 healthy children enrolled in the study. Patients with IBD were categorized into subgroups based on disease activity and response to treatment, and the levels of pro- and anti-inflammatory cytokines were measured. Results showed that disease activity might impact gingival inflammation in pediatric patients with IBD due to increased cytokine interactions and severity of inflammation.

Summary: This study assessed the role of intraluminal impedance (MII-pH) in evaluating GERD in children with repaired esophageal atresia (EA). The results showed that the majority of reflux episodes in these patients were non-acidic and could not be detected with standard pH monitoring. Therefore, MII-pH monitoring should be preferred over conventional pH monitoring in the surveillance of EA patients.

Summary: This study analyzed 158 children who received 179 episodes of individualized parenteral nutrition. The most common indications were hematological malignancies, gastrointestinal surgery, and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. The most common metabolic complications included electrolyte imbalances and elevated liver enzymes. Central venous catheters were more efficient for providing targeted energy. Maintaining blood glucose, lipids, and electrolyte levels within the normal range is crucial for individualized parenteral nutrition.

Summary: This study identified the etiologies of hepatic steatosis in children through a retrospective review of liver biopsies. The most common diagnoses were inborn errors of metabolism and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease/steatohepatitis. Patients with inborn errors of metabolism had higher rates of consanguineous marriage and positive family history compared to those with NAFLD/NASH, along with common clinical and biochemical findings.
