Background: Physical exercise may be potentially beneficial for recovering physical condition and improving quality of life in populations suffering from chronic conditions, but little is known about its effects on patients suffering from Crohn's disease. Aims: To provide reasonable and conservative recommendations for exercise regimens that appear clinically safe and feasible in patients suffering from Crohn's disease. Methods: Relevant clinical studies about the effects of physical exercise on Crohn's disease, written in English Language and carried out with human subjects were reviewed. Results: Few relevant clinical studies have evaluated the effects of an exercise intervention on patients experiencing Crohn's disease. There seem to be two main types of physical interventions that should be recommended: aerobic activity and muscular resistance training. Conclusions: Some basic guidelines about how to prescribe physical exercise in Crohn's disease can be provided. However, more research is needed as few studies have been carried out so far. Effects of Cycling Dual-Task on Cognitive and Physical Function in Parkinson's Disease: A Randomized Double-Blind Pilot Study

Karina Pitombeira Pereira-Pedro, Iris Machado de Oliveira, Irimia Mollinedo-Cardalda, Jose M. Cancela-Carral

Summary: The study found that combining cycling with a cognitive task in a dual-task intervention can lead to impairment in physical task performance but improvement at the cognitive level. This suggests that combining cycling with a cognitive task may have potential benefits for training patients with PD.

Do the Lower Body Strength Assessment Tests in the Spanish Navy Really Measure What They Purport to Measure?

Ma Helena Vila, Iris M. de Oliveira, Francisco J. Burgos-Martos, Angel Martin-Pinadero, Irimia Mollinedo-Cardalda, Jose M. Cancela-Carral

Summary: The main objective of this research was to analyze the effectiveness of lower body strength assessment tests in the Armed Forces Physical Assessment System, as well as the relationship between the Spanish Armed forces' physical evaluation system and standardized evaluation protocols. A total of 905 military/civil bachelor's degree students participated in the study, with moderate correlations found between the vertical jump test used by the Army and the power or elastic force tests. The results suggest the need for more objective measurement tools to improve the assessment of lower body strength in different armed forces.

Immersive Virtual Reality Reaction Time Test and Relationship with the Risk of Falling in Parkinson's Disease

Pablo Campo-Prieto, Jose Ma Cancela-Carral, Gustavo Rodriguez-Fuentes

Summary: Immersive virtual reality (IVR) is a promising tool that can stimulate all the user's senses with computer-generated sensations and feedback. An exploratory study was conducted to explore the feasibility of using IVR reaction time tests as predictors of falls in Parkinson's disease (PD) patients. The results showed that IVR reaction times were related to functionality, cognitive impairment, and the years of the patients, and IVR test could be a complementary assessment tool to prevent falls in PD patients.
