Summary: This study reviewed the evidence of service learning activities for nursing students and explored the educational and non-educational benefits and students' perceptions. The findings showed that nursing students participating in service learning programs had positive outcomes in terms of theoretical and practical learning, communication skills, teamwork, empathy, questioning prejudices, and commitment. The study also highlighted the varied nature of activities and interventions implemented using this approach and the positive evaluation by participating students. However, more experimental studies using larger samples are needed to further support the development of service learning programs.
