Summary: This study investigated the pain-alleviating effects of escitalopram and adjunctive aripiprazole for patients with comorbid pain and depression. The results showed significant improvements in pain severity and interference for patients receiving escitalopram, regardless of treatment response. However, patients receiving aripiprazole after week 8 did not experience further improvement in pain symptoms. Further research is needed to identify interventions that can effectively treat both pain and depression symptoms.

Summary: A meta-analysis was conducted to explore the clinical efficacy of aripiprazole and quetiapine in Chinese patients with bipolar depression. The results showed no significant difference in remission rate between the two drugs, but aripiprazole combined with lithium carbonate showed higher remission rate compared to quetiapine combined with lithium carbonate. The effective rate and dropout rate were similar between aripiprazole and quetiapine in the treatment of bipolar depression.

Summary: There is a growing interest in the psychiatric properties of ketamine, a dissociative anaesthetic, due to its fast-acting mood-enhancing and anxiolytic effects. These effects persist even after the main psychoactive symptoms have diminished, making ketamine a potential treatment for refractory anxiety disorders. Ketamine acts as a noncompetitive antagonist of the N-methyl-d-aspartate (NMDA) glutamate receptor, which is responsible for its pain relief and anaesthetic effects. However, the role of NMDA receptors in anxiety reduction is still not well understood. This systematic review examines the evidence of ketamine's significant reduction of refractory anxiety and discusses the possible involvement of NMDA receptor antagonism and other receptors. The review also highlights the temporary nature of the anxiolytic effects and the discrepancies in study designs regarding administration routes, complementary treatments, and other factors.

Summary: In this study, the relationship between the induced CD spectra and the structural features of the HSA complexes with ARP or deschloro-ARP was examined using several methods, including CD spectroscopic analysis, X-ray crystallographic analysis, and molecular dynamics simulations. The results showed that the induced CD spectra of the HSA complexes were influenced by temperature and that both ARP and deschloro-ARP were bound at the site II pocket in HSA, but with different molecular motions and interactions.

Summary: The efficacy of electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) in the treatment of adolescents with treatment-refractory depression is unsatisfactory, and it is unclear which factors are related to the treatment effect. Resting-state fMRI may be a good tool to predict the clinical efficacy of this treatment and identify the most suitable population for it.

Summary: This study compared the effect of oral aripiprazole and aripiprazole once-monthly (AOM) on autonomic nervous system activity in patients with schizophrenia. The results showed that AOM may have fewer adverse effects, such as sympathetic nervous dysfunction, compared to oral aripiprazole.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the metabolic biomarkers of refractory major depressive disorder and their metabolic connectivity with specific brain regions. The study found that the metabolic activity of the subgenual anterior cingulate cortex was strongly connected with certain brain regions in the depressed state, and the connection patterns differed between the left and right sides.

Summary: The phase sequence and molecular dynamics of aripiprazole were investigated using various techniques. Polymorphism of aripiprazole is highly influenced by thermal treatment. Different polymorphic forms were observed during slow and fast temperature changes. New crystal phases were discovered during the slow cooling/heating process. The contribution of each form was estimated through XRD experiments and POM textures segmentation. Complex molecular mobility was found in both crystalline phases and during glass softening.

Summary: Epilepsy is a common neurological disease that poses significant challenges for patients, particularly those with uncontrolled seizures. The impact of refractory epilepsy on patients' quality of life, mortality rates, and societal stigma is substantial, and there are ongoing questions surrounding the treatment of this condition. The emergence of novel medications like cenobamate may offer additional benefits for refractory epilepsy management.

Summary: A meta-analysis of multiple studies suggests that low-dose aripiprazole augmentation may achieve a better balance of efficacy, tolerability, and acceptability in the acute treatment of antidepressant-refractory depression. Further research is needed to investigate the benefits of low versus high dose due to limitations in the current evidence.
