Summary: In pediatric and adolescent patients with malignant ovarian germ cell tumors, the use of intra-operative frozen section to guide extent of surgical staging showed a concordance with final diagnosis in most cases, highlighting its importance in operative decision-making.

Summary: Our study revealed that close surveillance alone could be considered as an alternative option to avoid adjuvant chemotherapy in properly staged IB-C dysgerminomas, IA-IC G2-G3 immature teratomas, and IA mixed malignant ovarian germ cell tumors with yolk sac tumor component.

Summary: This study aims to clarify the significance of lymphovascular invasion (LVI) in non-germinomatous malignant ovarian germ cell tumors (MOGCT). The presence of LVI was found to be higher in tumors with adverse risk factors, such as higher stage and age greater than 11 years. However, LVI was not associated with event-free survival (EFS) or overall survival (OS) in the intermediate risk group.

Summary: Testicular germ cell tumors, especially NSGCT, are the most common solid malignancy in male children and younger adults. This study aimed to characterize the relative survival of NSGCT by age, showing that younger patients have better survival outcomes, particularly in Stage III tumors.

Summary: This study aimed to determine computed tomography (CT) features in differentiating stage 1 borderline ovarian tumors (BOTs) from stage I malignant epithelial ovarian tumors (MEOTs). The results showed that a larger tumor size and a smaller solid component were significantly associated with BOTs. In cases with a solid component, smaller and ill-defined solid component was significantly associated with BOTs.

Summary: Ovarian germ cell tumors are a rare pathology that often affects young women. The treatment is individualized, with fertility-sparing surgery being the standard for young patients in early stages of the disease.

Summary: Reproductive factors influence the risk and prognosis of ovarian cancer, with lower risk in parous women for epithelial ovarian cancer and a higher prevalence of nonepithelial ovarian cancer among young women. A study found that parity was associated with a significantly decreased risk of cause-specific mortality in patients with germ cell tumors (GCTs), while there was no evidence of associations with other ovarian cancer subtypes. Further research on hormone exposure and GCT development may provide insights into mechanisms affecting survival.

Summary: This systematic review examines the effectiveness of neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) for women with malignant ovarian germ cell tumors (MOGCT). The results indicate that NACT is used in approximately 40% of advanced MOGCT cases with a response rate of 95.8%. The uterine preservation rate is around 70% and the cumulative resumed menstruation rate is 100%. Comparisons with primary debulking surgery show similar overall survival, disease-free survival, recurrence rate, and adverse event rate from chemotherapy.

Summary: Because ovarian germ cell tumors (OGCTs) are rare, our understanding of them is limited due to insufficient studies on their molecular basis in pediatric and adult cancers. This paper provides an overview of the etiology and pathogenesis of OGCTs in children and adults, focusing on their molecular characteristics.

Summary: This study aimed to describe the clinical features of extracranial germ cell tumors (GCTs) in pediatrics and investigate the clinical risk factors associated with survival for malignant germ cell tumors (MGCTs) to optimize treatment options. The results showed that the clinical features of GCTs in Chinese pediatrics are similar to those reported in children in Europe and America. The age distribution and primary sites of GCTs reflect the developmental origin of different pathological types. Optimizing chemotherapy regimens and exploring treatment strategies for mediastinal MGCTs are future research directions.

Summary: Malignant ovarian germ cell tumors (MOGCTs) in Korean women demonstrated a slight increase in prevalence, with a more pronounced growth among patients aged <19 years. Patients with dysgerminoma showed significantly higher survival rates compared to those with non-dysgerminoma. Following MOGCT diagnosis, the risk of developing subsequent malignancies doubled compared with the general population.

Summary: Intracranial germ cell tumors (iGCTs) originating from the neurohypophysis, the second most common site after the pineal region, present with stereotypical symptoms such as pituitary dysfunction and visual field deficit. Radiographic diagnostic latency is common and associated with index symptoms of diabetes insipidus (DI) and hormone deficiency. Pretreatment biochemical abnormalities may indicate a higher risk of posttreatment pituitary insufficiency. Whole-brain or whole-ventricle radiotherapy shows improved survival in germinomas compared to local therapy.

Summary: Adolescent patients with metastatic GCTs have clinical characteristics more similar to young adult patients than children. The event-free survival (EFS) for adolescents is worse than that for children but similar to young adults. Coordination of initiatives across clinical trial organizations is crucial to improve outcomes for adolescents and young adults.

Summary: The study aimed to assess current French practices in managing patients with advanced epithelial ovarian cancer. Results showed that less than 50% of patients were eligible for primary debulking surgery, there was a wide range in the timing of BRCA testing, and the use of bevacizumab varied depending on the presence of residual disease.
