Summary: This study explores neurocognitive outcomes in survivors of neuroblastoma and finds that survivors have a higher risk of impairments in emotional regulation and task efficiency. Factors such as treatment exposures, era of diagnosis, and chronic conditions are associated with these impairments. The study highlights the importance of identifying and managing these factors to improve outcomes for neuroblastoma survivors.

Summary: In order to best support the diverse needs of adolescent and young adult cancer survivors, healthcare providers should assess and support them using a biopsychosocial and contextual framework. Building a trusting relationship with patients to openly discuss the physical and psychosocial aspects of sexual health is key to providing optimal care and outcomes.

Summary: This study examined the psychosexual development, sexual functioning, and sexual satisfaction of childhood cancer survivors (CCS), as well as the determinants for these outcomes. The results showed that one third of CCS reported hindered sexuality due to childhood cancer, with body perception being the most commonly reported reason. Age, education, cancer type, mental health, and body perception were identified as determinants for sexual debut, sexual functioning, and sexual satisfaction. Emerging adult CCS had less experience with psychosexual development compared to references, but similar sexual functioning and satisfaction.

Summary: This scoping review highlighted significant health disparities between racial/ethnic minority and non-minority childhood cancer survivors, with factors such as clinical, demographic, and socioeconomic status playing a role in explaining these disparities. Comprehensive social determinants of racial/ethnic disparities should be collected and integrated into healthcare systems to better understand and address the gap. National and local efforts, such as improving health insurance access and providing culturally-specific interventions, are recommended to reduce the disparities in health outcomes for childhood cancer survivors of different racial/ethnic backgrounds.

Summary: This study aimed to compare the psychosocial and physical health of adolescent and young adult cancer survivors from different racial and ethnic groups. The study found that Hispanic survivors had poorer overall health, lower education levels, and lower household income compared to Non-Hispanic White survivors. African American survivors were more likely to be uncoupled and have hypertension. Asian survivors were more likely to be former/current drinkers. NHW and Asian survivors were more likely to experience psychological limitation compared to the matched general population.

Summary: An estimated 500,000 cancer survivors of reproductive age in the United States will experience the long-term consequences of cancer treatment. Infertility is a common late effect affecting 12% of female survivors of childhood cancer, greatly reducing their chances of pregnancy. Other gynecologic late effects, such as hypoestrogenism and sexual dysfunction, also significantly impact the quality of life in cancer survivors.

Summary: In this study, we assessed novel factors and the immunodeficiency scoring index (ISI) to predict progression to lower respiratory tract infection (LRTI) among hematopoietic cell transplant (HCT) recipients with upper respiratory tract infection (URTI) in the PCR era. We found that a history of multiple transplants, age ≥ 40 years, time post-HCT ≤ 30 days, systemic steroids, hypoalbuminemia, hyperglycemia, cytopenia, and high ISI scores were associated with an increased risk of progression to LRTI.

Summary: The five-year survival rate for childhood acute myeloid leukemia (AML) has increased due to advancements in treatment and supportive care. However, the long-term health outcomes of AML survivors remain unclear. This study examined the incidence of late mortality and chronic health conditions (CHC) among 5-year AML survivors diagnosed between 1970 and 1999. The results showed that hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) was associated with higher late mortality, but the incidence of CHC has decreased over time for all treatment groups.
