Summary: The study identified specific serum metabolites associated with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), with a combination of alpha-HB, beta-HB, and myristic acid showing high specificity and sensitivity for the diagnosis of GDM, as well as predicting the risk of GDM in early pregnancy. These findings suggest potential new markers for the early diagnosis of GDM.

Summary: In this study, gas chromatography-mass spectrometry was used to investigate the toxic mechanisms of ACR in the main target tissues of rats, revealing 14 metabolic pathways related to amino acid, fatty acid, purine, and energy metabolism. The study suggests that the toxic mechanism of ACR may involve oxidative stress, inflammation, amino acid metabolism, and energy disorders.

Summary: This study used metabolomics analysis to identify a set of potential metabolites that could be used for forensic diagnosis of diabetes mellitus in postmortem blood samples. The findings suggest that further metabolomics research using postmortem samples is necessary to identify markers for forensic diagnosis.

Summary: The aim of this study was to identify biomarkers for the diagnosis of wooden breast (WB) myopathy in male broilers by characterizing the serum metabolic profiles using metabolomics analysis. A clear separation was observed between normal (CON) and WB groups based on the analysis of 73 significantly different metabolites. Nine significantly altered metabolites were identified as excellent discriminant biomarkers for WB myopathy. This study provides new insights into the pathogenesis of WB and offers potential biomarkers for diagnostic purposes.

Summary: This study suggests that changes in the gut microbiome of GDM patients are associated with insulin resistance and obesity. By measuring SCFA and their derivatives, the metabolic status of GDM patients can be understood. The variation in SCFA concentration is important for monitoring GDM patients.

Summary: This study identified differential metabolites between pregnant women with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) in the third trimester and those without GDM. Several potential biomarkers for GDM were discovered, which may contribute to the understanding of the pathological mechanism of GDM and the development of efficient and sensitive detection methods for GDM.

Summary: The study investigated the reliability of retinal and retinoic acid as biomarkers in predicting the development of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in subjects with impaired fasting glucose (IFG). The results showed significant decreases in these biomarkers in the IFG-DM group. When added to conventional risk factors for T2DM, these metabolites enhanced the predictive ability for T2DM.

Summary: This study revealed that exposure to PFOS led to disturbances in fatty acid metabolism in C. elegans, characterized by decreased levels of C18:0, increased levels of C18:3n6, decreased C18:3n6: C18:2n6 ratio, and down-regulation of the FA desaturation gene fat-3. Additionally, exposure disrupted mitochondrial function, leading to reduced ATP synthesis.

Summary: The aim of this research was to establish a method for quantifying 10 short-chain fatty acids (FSCFAs) in raw cow milk. Acidified raw cow milk samples were processed using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry after pretreatment with hydrochloric acid ethanol (0.5%) solution. Except for iso C5:0 and anteiso C5:0 co-elution, the remaining eight FSCFAs were effectively separated by chromatography. The methodological validation showed satisfactory linear relationships, low limits of quantification, good recoveries, and precision. Our study provides a valuable method for future quality and safety control of raw milk and nutritional studies.

Summary: The all-in-one sample preparation method MeOH-MTBE-H2O (1:5:1.5, v/v/v) was identified as the optimal extraction method for plasma metabolomics. In the study of osteoarthritis (OA), a panel of biomarkers including cholesterol, lactic acid, stearic acid, alpha-tocopherol, and oxalic acid showed potential as diagnostic biomarkers for distinguishing OA patients from healthy controls.
