Environmental tobacco smoke is a major factor influencing the indoor air quality. Various toxic compounds emitted during tobacco smoking into the environment have a significant influence on the chemical composition of human biological fluids. The thiocyanate concentration in saliva is a biochemical measure, frequently used as an objective indicator of tobacco consumption. The goal of this study was to find significant relationships between salivary thiocyanates and other inorganic ions, which are constituents of natural saliva (Na(+), K(+), Mg(2+), Ca(2+), Cl(-), PO(4)(3-)) and to present the effectiveness of the proposed sample preparation procedure combined with ion chromatography technique for the determination of inorganic ions in human saliva samples collected from passive, moderate and heavy smokers. Comparative evaluation of different methods for determining phytochemicals and antioxidant activity in products containing betalains-Verification of beetroot samples

Sources and composition of chemical pollution in Maritime Antarctica (King George Island), part 1: Sediment and water analysis for PAH sources evaluation in the vicinity of Arctowski station

Determination of the Major By-Products of Citrus hystrix Peel and Their Characteristics in the Context of Utilization in the Industry

Summary: The study aimed to determine the main by-products of kaffir lime peel and evaluate their potential uses in various industries. The most abundant volatile compounds in the essential oil were sabinene, beta-pinene, and limonene. The peel was also found to contain microelements, macroelements, and ballast substances. Pectin extraction was optimized using citric acid, and the obtained pectins were characterized. The peel was also found to contain various bioactive compounds, with antioxidant capacity evaluated using CUPRAC and DPPH assays.

Chemical, Aroma and Pro-Health Characteristics of Kaffir Lime Juice-The Approach Using Optimized HS-SPME-GC-TOFMS, MP-OES, 3D-FL and Physiochemical Analysis

Summary: The study aimed to characterize the chemical, aroma, and prohealth properties of kaffir lime juice. A procedure using solid-phase microextraction with gas chromatography was developed to determine the terpenes in kaffir lime. The physicochemical parameters and micro- and macro elements were evaluated. The fluorescence spectroscopy revealed the strong binding of kaffir lime terpenes to human serum albumin. Kaffir lime juice is a rich source of terpenes, vitamin C, citric acid, and minerals, with good aromatic and bioactive properties.
