Summary: Using multiple measurement techniques ensures reliable interpretation of sample changes during heating, eliminating uncertainty and improving data interpretation. This paper briefly characterizes thermal analysis techniques coupled with spectroscopic or chromatographic techniques. Various design solutions for coupled thermogravimetry (TG) with infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), mass spectrometry (MS), and gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) systems are discussed. The importance of coupled techniques in pharmaceutical technology is highlighted, as they provide insights into the behavior and degradation of medicinal substances during heating, allowing determination of decomposition mechanisms and prediction of shelf life and storage conditions. In addition, design solutions for interpreting differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) curves using observation or simultaneous recording of FTIR spectra and X-ray diffractograms (XRD) are characterized, addressing the inherent non-specificity of DSC.

Summary: A new high-temperature ternary Cr(III) phase (Wuboraite, CaAl2Cr2IIIO7) was synthesized in the Al2O3-CaO-Cr2O3 system. The formation and chemical transformation mechanism of Wuboraite have not been explored in detail. Through solid-state reaction using XRD, TG-DSC, XPS, and leaching tests, the system between 500 and 1600 degrees C under air and argon atmosphere was investigated. Wuboraite formation starts at different temperatures (-1500 &-1100 degrees C) under different atmospheres (air and Ar), with intermediate compounds CaCrVIO4 and CaCr2IIIO4 playing a crucial role in wuboraite conversion.

Summary: The reactivity of low-valent alkyl-substituted metallacyclobutadienes towards electron-rich alkynes was studied. It was found that nucleophilic attack on the ReC(R) carbon of the starting metallacyclobutadienes can lead to the formation of new vinyl-substituted complexes. Additionally, the reactions also produce metallacyclobutadiene complexes with vinyl substituents.

Summary: A recent study has demonstrated the photo-induced CO-releasing capabilities of the complex Re1Pc, which is composed of a [Re(CO)(3)](+) unit and a phthalocyanine ligand. The complex exhibited efficient spin-orbit coupling and large Franck-Condon factors, resulting in short excited-state lifetimes and ultrafast intersystem crossing. This research provides promising insights into the development of red-light-driven photoCORMs for biomedical applications.

Summary: Thermogravimetric analysis and differential scanning calorimeter (TGA/DSC) technique were used to study the spontaneous combustion propensity behavior of coal samples from Indian coalfields. The results showed an increase in mass in the temperature range of 150-350 degrees C, which could be attributed to the adsorption and absorption of oxygen. Correlation and principal component analysis indicated a good correlation between the proximate analysis components and TGA experimental results. Multiple fixed nonlinear regression analysis suggested that the T-gign parameter derived from TG experiments may be the best indicator for classifying coal samples based on their susceptibility to spontaneous combustion. Hierarchical clustering analysis was used to classify the coal samples into four groups based on moisture, volatile matter, and TG ignition temperature. Field observations and statistical analysis supported this classification. (C) 2021 Published by Elsevier B.V. on behalf of China University of Mining & Technology.

Summary: The zinc dithiocarbamates functionalized with folic acid were synthesized using a simple method and showed low solubility in water. These complexes were successfully used in transmetallation reactions to prepare Tc-99m radiopharmaceuticals with high yields. The resulting Tc-99m folates exhibited low specific binding to folate receptors in preliminary in vivo studies.

Summary: This tutorial demonstrates the basic steps of evaluating thermoanalytical curves to obtain reliable data for comparison with literature data, focusing on bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide-based imidazolium derivatives. The effects of experimental conditions on the results are outlined, and the determination of characteristic decomposition temperatures is described. The advantages of applying the simultaneous TG-DSC technique and examples of visualizing and evaluating compound series data are presented. The results of hyphenated TG-MS measurements and limitations of the applied techniques are also discussed. The principles of evaluating thermoanalytical curves described here can be generally applied to various sample types, not only ionic liquids.

Summary: The microwave-assisted solvothermal method was used to prepare lanthanide (III) complexes with N,N'-dimethylformamide (DMF), which contain DMF and water molecules in their structures. The complexes exhibit varying thermal stability, with solvent molecules being removed in a more complex manner, especially in heavy lanthanide complexes. Their thermal stability is higher in a nitrogen atmosphere. The thermal decomposition of the complexes was investigated through TG-FTIR methods, showing the evolution of volatile products such as DMF, H2O, CO2, CO, and CH4 during heating.

Summary: Reflectance of rhenium in the visible region was measured up to 100 GPa in a diamond anvil cell, showing challenges in obtaining accurate values in a DAC due to diamond cupping and surface roughening with pressure increase. Useful procedures were proposed to overcome these challenges and knowledge of rhenium reflectance can help avoid light absorption by diamonds in high pressure studies in a DAC.

Summary: This paper presents a novel measurement method based on the finite volume method (FVM) for measuring the concentration-dependent mutual diffusion coefficient D(C) in binary solution. The measurement principle was derived by integrating Fick's second law and establishing discretization equation. The method was validated through experiments and a semi-empirical correlation was built to study the temperature and concentration influences on the diffusion coefficient D.
