Summary: This study analyzed the effect of travel time from the tertiary care centre on outcomes of ascending thoracic aortic surgery in Nova Scotia. The results showed that the travel time did not significantly affect in-hospital outcomes, but patients with longer travel time had lower long-term survival rates after ascending aortic repair.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the value of preoperative inflammatory biomarkers in predicting aorta-related adverse events (AAEs) after thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) for type B aortic dissection. The results showed that increased preoperative SIRI and age were independent risk factors for AAEs after TEVAR in type B aortic dissection.

Summary: The study evaluated the fate of preserved aortic root after supracoronary aortic replacement for acute type A aortic dissection. It found that sinus of Valsalva diameter and commissural detachment were independent predictors of unfavorable outcomes. Close follow-up is necessary for these patients, and aortic root replacement at the time of initial operation may lead to more favorable late outcomes.

Summary: The length of the ascending aorta plays a significant role in discriminating patients with type A aortic dissection, especially after adjusting for diameter, age, and sex. This study highlights the importance of ascending aortic length as a diagnostic marker for aortic dissection.

Summary: Total arch replacement is associated with fewer distal aortic events in patients with type A acute aortic dissection, compared to ascending aortic replacement. The distal aortic event-free rate in the ascending aortic replacement group decreases over time, while the rate remains stable in the total arch replacement group. Patients with a dissected arch are at higher risk of distal aortic events.

Summary: This study retrospectively evaluated the safety and efficacy of thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) in patients with type B aortic dissection and identified risk factors for long-term mortality. The findings showed that TEVAR was associated with lower in-hospital mortality, death within 30 days, and aortic-related mortality compared to optimal medical treatment. Cox analysis also revealed that a vertical length of the dissection exceeding 150 mm increased the risk of mortality.

Summary: This study identified specific geometric characteristics of the ascending aorta associated with ATAAD, such as the asc-arch angle and total length. Patients with ATAAD showed significantly elongated ascending aortas and uniquely narrower angles, which can help differentiate ATAAD from a normal aorta.

Summary: The 5-year clinical outcomes of thoracic endovascular aortic repair for chronic type B aortic dissection were analyzed in this study. It was found that patients with adverse aortic events (AAEs) had higher rates of residual type A aortic dissection and aortic diameter >= 5.5 cm, as well as lower rate of complete false lumen thrombosis, and a longer interval from symptom onset to intervention. Partial or no false lumen thrombosis and aortic diameter >= 5.5 cm were identified as independent risk factors for AAEs.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the prognostic importance of pre-operative neutrophil-lymphocyte platelet ratio (NLPR) in predicting in-hospital mortality after surgical treatment of acute Type A aortic dissection (ATAAD). The results showed that the pre-operative NLPR value can be used to predict the risk of in-hospital mortality after ATAAD surgery.

Summary: The study developed prediction models for estimating long-term survival in patients who underwent esophageal cancer surgery, including 1-, 3-, and 5-year all-cause mortality, and 3- and 5-year disease-specific mortality. These models showed good performance and may serve as useful tools for guiding patient life planning and postoperative treatment.

Summary: This study aimed to establish an early risk prediction model for reintubation after Stanford type A aortic dissection surgery (AADS) and clarify its relationship with short-term and long-term prognosis. The results showed that reintubation was closely associated with adverse in-hospital outcomes but had no statistically significant association with long-term outcomes in patients who were discharged successfully after surgery.

Summary: ESR1 expression is significantly associated with ascending aortic dilation and AAAD. Utilizing ESR1 expression as a novel diagnostic biomarker for TAA may have potential value. The immune infiltration ratio of naive CD8 + T cells in AAAD is positively correlated with ESR1 expression.

Summary: The study found that the prevalence of chronic bronchitis is directly associated with smoking habits and inversely associated with high socioeconomic status, forced expiratory volume, and the FEV/vital capacity ratio. Chronic bronchitis is strongly linked to major cardiovascular disease and all-cause mortality, while lung function measurements seem to play an independent role in predicting long-term mortality alongside chronic bronchitis.

Summary: This study investigates the lifetime relationships between three major lifestyle behaviors and cardiovascular mortality in a cohort of middle-aged men. The results show that physical activity and diet have a significant protective effect on coronary heart disease (CHD), while vigorous physical activity is beneficial for stroke prevention. Never smoking is associated with a lower risk of other heart diseases of uncertain etiology (HDUE). Comparing three healthy behaviors versus three unhealthy behaviors is associated with a 39% lower mortality rate of CHD. However, the same association is not observed for stroke and HDUE, suggesting different morbidity conditions.

Summary: Abnormal android to-gynoid-fat ratio (A/G) measured by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) in children may index cardiometabolic abnormalities including metabolic syndrome (MS). In this study, significant differences were observed in BMI, waist and hip circumferences, as well as various biochemical markers between children with abnormal A/G ratio and those without. The A/G ratio was moderately useful in diagnosing MS when waist circumference was included as a criterion, but not useful if waist circumference was omitted.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate mortality rates from three major cardiovascular diseases (coronary heart disease, cerebrovascular diseases, and other heart diseases of uncertain etiology) in a pooled cohort over a 60-year follow-up period. The results showed that countries with high serum cholesterol levels had higher death rates from coronary heart disease, while countries with low cholesterol levels had higher death rates from stroke and other heart diseases. Differences in lifelong cardiovascular disease mortalities across different countries were smaller than expected.

Summary: This study focuses on the primary strain lines of local deformation in the Epicardial and Endocardial layers, and evaluates the angle of strain lines with respect to the horizontal circumferential direction. The results show that the Epicardial strain lines are obliquely directed, while those of the Endocardium are almost circumferential, regardless of the pathological conditions.
