Summary: Collections of microfungi in Thailand have discovered a new species morphologically similar to Lophiostoma, but distinguished based on multi-locus phylogeny. A new genus, Sublophiostoma, is introduced to accommodate this taxon. A new family, Sublophiostomataceae, is also introduced to classify this distinct clade within Pleosporales.

Summary: This study conducted comprehensive phylogenomic and comparative analyses on organisms from the Staphylococcacae family and Gemella genus to clarify their evolutionary relationships and classification. It was found that Gemella and Staphylococcacae are distinct taxonomic units. By analyzing protein sequences, 120 conserved signature indels (CSIs) were identified that can robustly distinguish different genera and families. Based on these findings, the proposal to transfer some species from Gemella, Jeotgalicoccus, Macrococcus, and Salinicoccus into new genera and families was made.

Summary: This study proposes two new families, Climacocystaceae and Gloeoporellaceae, within the diverse group of Polyporales based on morphological and molecular data. Phylogenetic analyses were conducted using DNA sequences of various genes, and the divergence time of Polyporales was estimated using the conserved regions of five DNA fragments. The results reveal the ancestral split of Polyporales and the ages of the families, with Climacocystaceae and Gloeoporellaceae originating at specific time periods.

Summary: The study describes a thermophilic, strictly anaerobic, Gram-stain-negative bacterium strain S15T isolated from oily sludge in Shengli oilfield, China. Physiological characteristics, ecological information, and taxonomical classification of strain S15T are discussed, leading to the proposal of a new genus and species, Thermosynergistes pyruvativorans gen. nov., sp. nov. with strain S15T as the type strain. Additionally, a new family, Thermosynergistaceae fam. nov., is suggested based on the unique characteristics of the strain.

Summary: A new predatory bacillus, strain V1718(T), was isolated from Xiaoshi Island, PR China. Strain V1718(T) showed similarities to other strains and had the ability to prey on other bacteria. This strain belongs to a novel family based on its physiological, biochemical, and phylogenetic properties.

Summary: Hagnosa longicapillata, a new species collected from indoor environments in Hungary, grows on wooden building materials and disperses spores through mechanical disturbance of the mycelial web. In a separate phylogenetic analysis, a new family, Hagnosaceae, is proposed to place Hagnosa in Sordariales.

Summary: A new thermoacidophilic, anaerobic, iron- and sulfur-reducing archaeon strain NAS-02(T) was isolated from a terrestrial hot spring in Japan, leading to the proposal of a new genus Conexivisphaera calida gen. nov., sp. nov. The establishment of the new family Conexivisphaeraceae fam. nov., order Conexivisphaerales ord. nov., and class Conexivisphaeria class. nov. also followed based on phylogenetic and physiological analysis.

Summary: Lower termites carry diverse symbiotic gut flagellates, and this study identified a new lineage called Retractinymphidae. The new genus Retractinympha glossotermitis is closely related to Teranymphidae, but its rostrum is longer than the body, and its anterior end is retractable. In addition, the presence of Heliconympha and Retractinympha and the absence of Pseudotrichonympha in Serritermitidae support the hypothesis of horizontal transmission.

Summary: The novel bacterium ML27(T) was isolated from oyster homogenate in Rushan, Weihai, PR China. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that ML27(T) represents a new genus within a novel family of the order Cardiobacteriales, named Ostreibacterium oceani gen. nov., sp. nov. This suggests the establishment of a new family, Ostreibacteriaceae fam. nov., to accommodate the genus Ostreibacterium.

Summary: Two heterotrophic bacteroidetes strains were isolated from hypersaline soda lakes in southwestern Siberia. Strain Z-1702T is an obligate anaerobic fermentative saccharolytic bacterium, while Ca. Cyclonatronum proteinivorum OmegaT is an obligate aerobic proteolytic microorganism. Both strains have highly variable morphology and are chloride-independent moderate salt-tolerant obligate alkaliphiles and mesophiles.

Summary: The species originally described as Acaulospora polonica actually represents a new genus and a new family of the ancient order Archaeosporales, introduced as Polonospora and Polonosporaceae respectively, within the phylum Glomeromycota. Several morphologically undescribed taxa at the ranks of genus and species are still present within Polonosporaceae with P. polonica comb. nov., having a worldwide distribution.

Summary: A novel anaerobic thermophilic bacterium, strain NRmbB1(T), was isolated from a deep subsurface oil field in Japan. This bacterium showed unique cellular structure, growth conditions, and metabolic pathways. Based on chemotaxonomic, phylogenetic, and genomic characterization, a new genus, family, and order were proposed for this bacterium.
