Summary: Intranasal corticosteroids (INCSs) have a favorable safety profile and high local-systemic balance of bioavailability with a low incidence of adverse events in the treatment of pediatric allergic rhinitis (AR). However, the use of INCSs should be individualized based on patient response and adverse effects. Evaluation of the benefits and risks of INCSs is necessary to ensure clinical efficacy and prevent potential events.

Summary: This paper reviews the intranasal trigeminal system and its associated reflexes, emphasizing their importance in human health and disease, particularly in rhinitis. The intranasal trigeminal system provides sensory perception and responds to chemical signals, supplying information about the nasal airway. The known reflexes within this system play a vital role in human physiology.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between dietary patterns and bone health in school-age children in China. The fruit-milk-eggs dietary pattern was positively associated with bone mineral content, while the animal organs-refined cereals pattern was negatively associated with bone mineral content and bone mineral density.

Summary: This retrospective study explored the bone turnover and bone mass disorders in children with hypophosphatemic rickets. The results showed that bone metabolism disturbances and worse bone quality were found in these patients. It is crucial to monitor the progress and treatment effects by determining bone turnover markers, dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry findings, and indices of quantitative ultrasound examination.

Summary: This study found that CF patients with normal nutritional status and without acute lung disease had normal bone mineral density but altered bone remodeling. Various bone turnover biomarkers were associated with CF, with factors like PTH, CTX, and OPG being significant predictors of BMD. Additionally, certain markers like PTH, TNF alpha, calcium, 1,25-vitamin D, and OPG were significantly linked to CF.

Summary: The combination of budesonide and montelukast may have superior efficacy in treating seasonal allergic rhinitis compared to budesonide monotherapy, especially in improving nasal blockage and itching. Nasal cavity volume and nasal airway resistance can be used to assess nasal blockage more accurately.

Summary: Previous studies have found a positive association between methylparaben (Mep) and bone mineral density (BMD) in adults, but limited research has been conducted in children and adolescents. This study examined 1830 individuals aged 8-19 years and found a positive association between Mep and BMD. The association was particularly significant in females and children aged 12-19 years.

Summary: This study aimed to describe the bone health and associated factors in children with severe cerebral palsy. The results showed that none of the included children had a normal BMCTBLH Z score, and only one had a BMDTBLH Z score greater than -2. Six children had a BMDLS Z score greater than -2. The bone biomarker data suggested excessive bone remodelling. Age, weight, and pubertal stage were significantly related to bone mass.

Summary: The study found that medication adherence to intranasal corticosteroid spray among allergic rhinitis patients is associated with severe nasal symptoms, allergen sensitization, and elevated total serum IgE levels. Multiple medication use had no impact on adherence. Lack of symptoms was a significant barrier to adherence, highlighting the need to emphasize the benefits of using the prescribed dose and frequency of intranasal corticosteroid spray to patients with mild and moderate allergic rhinitis.

Summary: This study investigated the association between blood lead levels (BLL) and bone mineral density (BMD) in American children and adolescents. The results showed a negative correlation between BLL and BMD at different sites, with a stronger effect in girls. These findings suggest that even within the reference range, increased BLL has a detrimental impact on bone health.

Summary: In pediatric rhinitis, local allergic rhinitis (LAR) and dual allergic rhinitis (DAR) are important differential diagnoses. A diagnostic approach solely based on atopy tests (AT) may lead to misdiagnosis, while nasal allergen challenge (NAC) can improve diagnostic accuracy in children and adolescents with rhinitis.

Summary: This study investigated the differences in bone mineral density (BMD) between ART-conceived children and naturally conceived children, and found that paternal childbearing age and the use of ART independently affected the BMD Z score of the offspring.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the association between anthocyanins and bone density in children. The results showed that higher dietary intake of anthocyanins, especially cyanidins, was associated with higher bone mineral content and density. However, no significant associations were found for delphinidin and peonidin.

Summary: The study investigated naturally occurring stable calcium isotopes in different body compartments as a potential biomarker for assessing bone mineral balance. Isotopic ratios in serum and urine were found to correlate with bone formation and resorption processes, showing promise as a non-invasive method for evaluating bone mineralization.

Summary: A new questionnaire was developed and validated to assess the knowledge, attitude, and practice of allergic rhinitis patients using intranasal corticosteroids. The questionnaire consists of 3 domains with 12 items and has demonstrated validity and reliability, making it a useful tool to improve patient treatment by understanding compliance factors.
