Summary: Parkinson's disease is a neurodegenerative disease with unclear molecular pathologies. Enhancing the clearance of alpha-synuclein, a proposed causative protein, is a central idea for PD research. NEDD4 ligases have been shown to influence the degradation of alpha-synuclein and may be potential therapeutic targets for PD. Understanding the expression and function of NEDD4 ligases in the brain is crucial for uncovering the mechanisms of PD.

Summary: This article reviews the interplay between MeCP2, synaptic plasticity, and stress, highlighting the role of MeCP2 in the transcriptional regulation of genes associated with neuronal plasticity. It also provides evidence linking dysregulation of MeCP2 expression to depressive symptoms induced by chronic stress. MeCP2 is considered a promising target for the development of more effective therapeutics for stress-related disorders such as depression.

Summary: This study identifies a novel gene-intergenic fusion transcript (UBE3C-IF) associated with distal hereditary motor neuropathy 1 (DHMN1). The UBE3C-IF transcript leads to decreased UBE3C protein levels in DHMN1 patient-derived motor neurons and causes synaptic transmission deficits and susceptibility to heat stress in a Caenorhabditis elegans model.

Summary: Mounting evidence suggests that Lactobacillus paracasei-derived extracellular vesicles (Lpc-EV) can modify amyloid-beta (Aβ)-induced transcriptional changes and Aβ pathology in the brains of Tg-APP/PS1 mice. Lpc-EV treatment reverses Aβ-induced downregulation of neurotrophic factors and Aβ-degrading proteases, and mitigates cognitive decline in Tg-APP/PS1 mice.

Summary: This study found that miR-206-3p is involved in the neuroprotective effect of AD mice by regulating BDNF. Intervening with miR-206-3p mimics led to increased expression of miR-206-3p, improving cognitive and motor function in AD mice, promoting the recovery of neuron morphology, and increasing the expression of BDNF protein.

Summary: Anorexia nervosa is a disorder with poor treatment effectiveness, characterized by restrictive eating behaviors, distorted body image perceptions, and excessive physical activity. There is growing recognition of the underlying dysfunction in excitatory and inhibitory neurometabolite metabolism and signaling in anorexia nervosa. This review examines the role of N-methyl-d-aspartate receptor-mediated neurometabolite dysfunction in anorexia nervosa and discusses the potential use of zinc supplementation and low-dose ketamine in normalizing this dysfunction.

Summary: The study found that the incidence of DBDs was higher in boys than girls, but the yearly incidence during adolescence was similar between genders; children with DBD tended to have parents with lower educational levels and were often diagnosed with other psychiatric disorders.

Summary: The Nordic welfare model is often cited as an example of promoting health and wellbeing, even for vulnerable groups like refugee children. However, there is a lack of published reviews on the resilience and risk and protective factors for the physical and mental health of refugee children in Nordic countries. This systematic review indicates the need for well-designed and powered studies to examine health outcomes and resilience among refugee children in the Nordic countries.

Summary: Age-related human pathologies present with a multitude of molecular and metabolic phenotypes, which contribute to tissue degeneration. Lack of understanding of the interdependence of these molecular pathologies limits therapeutic intervention strategies. In this study, we investigate the molecular events underlying cellular viability loss in autophagy deficiency associated with aging and age-related disease. We discover a novel axis linking autophagy and a metabolite, NAD, which mediates cellular demise. By elucidating the steps from mitochondrial recycling to NAD maintenance, we identify targets for therapeutic interventions in autophagy dysfunction.

Summary: This study aims to assess the quality and clarity of guidelines on childhood sexual abuse issued by government agencies and academic societies in the European region, and compare them with the WHO guidelines. The study will retrieve and evaluate guidelines published by national governmental agencies or academic societies in 34 network countries, and provide statistical results on the content and consistency of the guidelines. Rating: 8/10.

Summary: This study aims to investigate anxiety and depression in competitive figure skaters and identify associated factors. A cross-sectional study was conducted among 400 figure skaters in Southeast Sweden, finding that 47% exhibited anxiety and 10% exhibited depression. Overweight body image perception and older age were associated with anxiety. Further research on the mental health of figure skaters, especially those in need of assessment and support, is warranted.
