CircRNAs are emerging as potential biomarkers for diagnosis and prognosis of diseases due to their ability to cross the blood-brain barrier and presence in circulating exosomes.

A Cdk5-derived peptide inhibits Cdk5/p25 activity and improves neurodegenerative phenotypes

Summary: In this study, a 12-amino-acid-long peptide fragment derived from Cdk5 (Cdk5i) was identified. The Cdk5i showed high binding affinity toward the Cdk5/p25 complex and reduced Cdk5/p25 kinase activity, offering therapeutic potential for neurodegenerative diseases associated with Cdk5 hyperactivity.

Neuroprotective Effects of Ecklonia cava in a Chronic Neuroinflammatory Disease Model

Summary: Inflammation is a natural defense mechanism, but chronic inflammation can lead to various chronic diseases. Neuroinflammation in the central nervous system is important in the development of neurodegenerative diseases. Polyphenol-rich natural products, such as Ecklonia cava, have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties and can be used to control neuroinflammation in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases. In this study, we found that Ecklonia cava extract can reduce the levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines and markers of inflammation and neurodegeneration in mice with chronic inflammation induced by lipopolysaccharide.

A core-satellite-like nanoassembly reverses a decisive tyrosine hydroxylase loss in degenerative dopaminergic neurons

Summary: In recent years, the prevalence of neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson's or Alzheimer's diseases has been rapidly increasing. Traditional therapeutic solutions for Parkinson's disease can only alleviate symptoms and reversing the degeneration of crucial dopaminergic neurons has been a huge challenge. However, a recent study has developed a nanoassembly called PDA-AFn, which can effectively restore the function of degenerated neurons by raising the expression of tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) and increasing dopamine levels in the brain. This advancement in neurodegeneration treatment shows promising results in relieving symptoms and enhancing neuronal function.
