Summary: This study examined the diagnostic indicators, clinical characteristics, and functional impairment associated with adult ADHD using electronic medical records and self-report measures. The results showed a significant difference in prevalence of ADHD between self-report screening and medical records. ADHD was found to contribute to functional impairment even when controlling for other psychiatric comorbidities.

Summary: Studies have shown that individuals with ADHD are more likely to experience functional impairments in social and occupational settings, but there is limited evidence on real-life instability. It is also unclear if these impairments differ across sex and throughout adulthood.

Summary: This study investigated the role of dispositional mindfulness in moderating the association between brooding rumination and sleep problems in adolescents with and without attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The results showed that dispositional mindfulness could buffer the negative impact of brooding rumination on adolescent sleep.

Summary: This article summarizes the available data on the biological markers of treatment response in adults with ADHD, with a focus on neuroimaging and electrophysiological factors. No reliable markers have been identified so far, but promising findings have been reported regarding genetic polymorphisms in SNARE proteins and default mode network-striatum connectivity.

Summary: Children with NF1 are at increased risk for attention problems, with preschool-aged children offering a unique opportunity for clinical studies and early interventions. The Observer-rated Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder Rating Scale-Preschool version is recommended as a primary outcome measure, with additional secondary outcome measures also suggested. Specific methodologic recommendations for including preschoolers in clinical trials research are also provided.

Summary: This study investigates the developmental changes in emotion dysregulation (ED) and associated symptoms among boys and girls with and without ADHD from childhood to adolescence. The findings show sexually dimorphic developmental patterns, with boys with ADHD experiencing greater reduction in ED, irritability, and anxiety compared to girls with ADHD. Girls with ADHD exhibit persistently elevated levels of depressive symptoms. Both boys and girls with ADHD show higher levels of ED during childhood, but during adolescence, boys show improvements while girls continue to experience high and/or increased levels of emotional symptoms.

Summary: This study found that moderate-to-vigorous physical activity may be beneficial for improving sleep in adult ADHD patients using stimulant medications. Adhering to the recommended guidelines of 150 minutes of physical activity per week is particularly important in reducing the risk of sleep problems, especially for men.

Summary: The study examines the impact of relative age on mental health, specifically in preterm infants. The results show that being relatively young within a school class is associated with an increased likelihood of psychostimulant prescription, and this effect persists into young adulthood for preterm individuals.

Summary: The study compared demographic, clinical, and symptomatologic features between Dual Disorder A-ADHD (DD/A-ADHD) patients and those without dual disorders (NDD/A-ADHD). Results showed that NDD patients were more likely diagnosed with inattentive ADHD subtype, while DD/A-ADHD patients displayed more severe symptoms of hyperactivity/impulsivity. Type 1 and Type 2 substance use patterns had different effects on A-ADHD patients, leading to varied implications in diagnostic and therapeutic processes.

Summary: This study analyzed urine microbiome profiles to explore the potential of the urine microbiome as a biomarker for pediatric ADHD. The ADHD group showed decreased alpha diversity and significant beta diversity differences compared to the control group. The genus Afipia exhibited significant correlations with ADHD symptoms, suggesting its potential as a biomarker for ADHD.

Summary: This study compared the levels of mindfulness in children with ADHD and typically developing children, as well as their mothers. The findings showed that children with ADHD and their mothers had significantly lower levels of mindfulness compared to typically developing children and their mothers. This suggests that childhood mental disorders like ADHD can reduce mindfulness in children and their mothers.

Summary: This article reports a rare case that suggests methylphenidate (MPH) may be effective in treating chronic pain. The patient in this case had both attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and chronic pain, and the pain significantly improved after treating the ADHD. This study suggests that MPH may have therapeutic potential for chronic pain.

Summary: ADHD and BD have a high degree of comorbidity in adults, with substantial heterogeneity in comorbidity rates. Patients with comorbid ADHD tend to have an earlier onset of BD. Cultural, geographical, and methodological differences should be considered for evaluating diagnostic criteria to prevent misdiagnosis and provide optimal care for both disorders.

Summary: The literature review examines the association between ADHD, hypersexuality, and paraphilias, finding that individuals with ADHD may report these behaviors but the frequency of hypersexuality and paraphilias in the ADHD population is not definitively established. Conversely, studies suggest a high prevalence of ADHD in individuals with hypersexuality and paraphilias. The review is limited by methodological differences, varying measurement instruments, and small sample sizes in existing studies.

Summary: This study compared the participation, support, and barriers for children with ADHD at home pre-COVID-19 and during the COVID-19 outbreak. Results showed a significant increase in participation frequency in activities like computer games, socializing, and household chores during the COVID-19 period. Mothers reported higher involvement levels and easier participation due to reduced cognitive and social demands, as well as more readily available resources in the home environment during the COVID-19 period.
