Summary: Comparing the outcomes of robotic assisted total hip arthroplasty (rTHA) and manual total hip arthroplasty (mTHA) in osteoarthritis patients, it was found that rTHA resulted in better hip-specific functional outcomes, more accurate component positioning, and improved restoration of leg length postoperatively. However, there were no significant differences in general health status or patient satisfaction between the two groups.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between surgeon and hospital volumes and patient-reported outcome measures after total hip arthroplasty (THA). The results showed that higher hospital volumes were associated with higher preoperative HOOS-JR scores, but there was no difference in postoperative scores at 1-year follow-up. Surgeon and hospital volumes did not significantly affect preoperative and postoperative HOOS-JR scores.

Summary: It is reported that the dissatisfaction rate after primary total hip arthroplasty (THA) is between 7% and 20%. Patient satisfaction has become a global public health problem. The purpose of this paper is to review the literature and identify the main factors affecting patient satisfaction after THA. The review summarizes the main preoperative, perioperative, and postoperative factors that influence patient satisfaction.

Summary: This study conducted a cost-effectiveness analysis of total hip and knee arthroplasties in the New Zealand healthcare system, finding that THA and TKA are highly cost-effective procedures over a 15-year period. They were cost-effective after 2 years and highly cost-effective after 3 years. Patients with worse preoperative functional status and younger age showed greater quality-adjusted life year gains and cost-effectiveness.

Summary: Active patients had higher expectations for postoperative physical activities, while inactive patients showed greater improvement in physical activity level postoperatively. Overall satisfaction and clinical outcomes were similar between active and inactive patients at a two-year follow-up.

Summary: This study found that female patients who undergo total hip arthroplasty experience significantly increased sexual satisfaction post-surgery, with improvements seen in both physical and psychological limitations related to sexual activities. Surgeons should consider discussing these aspects with patients before and after the surgery.

Summary: Young women aged 15 to 45 who undergo total hip replacements have a higher risk of revision compared to those over 75 years old. 12% to 17% of women of childbearing age who have had a total hip replacement will later experience at least 1 pregnancy. Young women who have a total hip replacement do not have an increased risk of pregnancy complications. Among women who experienced pain with a total hip replacement during pregnancy, 60% still felt pain after delivery, with 21% experiencing persistent pain and 4% reporting severe pain. Limited studies suggest that women who have a total hip replacement and subsequently experience pregnancy and childbirth do not have an increased risk of pregnancy complications or revision rates.

Summary: The study aimed to compare the outcomes of patients who underwent different sequences of ipsilateral total hip arthroplasty (THA) and total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Results showed that patients achieved similar favorable outcomes in clinical scores and survivorship regardless of the sequence of surgeries. Total joint arthroplasty can be performed safely with excellent outcomes in patients with a history of prior ipsilateral THA or TKA.

Summary: Outpatient total hip arthroplasty (THA) is a safe option for selected patients with optimal outcomes comparable to inpatient THA. Comprehensive pre-operative planning involving a multidisciplinary team is crucial. Continuous homecoming welfare activities should be implemented in each center performing outpatient THA to supervise physiotherapy and monitor anticoagulant therapy.
