Summary: With the rapid development of textile technology, there is an increasing demand for textiles with multiple functions. In this study, a flame retardant and hydrophobic multifunctional cotton fabric was successfully prepared using a simple and efficient one-step method. The finished fabric showed good smoke suppression and lower heat release capacity.

Summary: Short-chain perfluoroalkyl styrenes were modified through insertion of tetrafluoro-lambda(6)-sulfanyl linked groups (-SF4-), forming side-chain fluoropolymers in emulsion copolymerization. Cotton fabrics treated with tetrafluorosulfanyl-modified fluoropolymers showed increased hydrophobicity compared to unmodified ones.

Summary: Synthetic textiles are a major source of microplastic fibers, with weathering being identified as a contributing process to their formation and presence in the environment. UV-light-induced artificial weathering of polyester fabrics resulted in the formation of microplastic fibers matching the size of the fibers in the textiles, as well as other shapes of microplastic fibers. The quantity of released microplastics significantly increased with weathering, with weathered fabrics potentially being 20-40 times larger sources of microplastic fibers compared to washing studies.

Summary: Microplastics released from textiles during washing are the most common type of microparticles found globally. Synthetic textile microfibers are released due to mechanical and chemical stresses during washing. A study found that increasing washing load led to a decrease in microfiber release, while decreasing washing load increased released microfibers due to a synergistic effect between water-volume to fabric ratio and mechanical stress.

Summary: Surface treatments can impact the interfacial properties in composite systems, with oxidation treatments leading to enhanced surface roughness and improved interfacial shear strength in carbon/epoxy specimens. A simple surface free energy characterization technique was proposed to assess the effect of fiber surface treatments on wetting behavior and surface free energy. This technique could be beneficial for research work and quality control of surface treatments.

Summary: This article introduces a new method to create wearable energy generators and sensors using nanostructured hybrid fibers, which have high stretchability and achieve higher voltage output and power density. The developed coiled piezoelectric fibers show a peak power density 2.5 times higher than previously reported piezoelectric textiles, with an energy conversion efficiency of 22.5%. The prototype wearable device based on hybrid piezofibers demonstrates efficient energy harvesting and real-time healthcare monitoring.

Summary: A new type of non-leaching antibacterial fiber was developed in this study, which effectively inactivated Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli with durable antibacterial performance. The fiber, named PGPs, maintained excellent antibacterial properties even after ultraviolet irradiation for 7 days or 50 washing cycles, and exhibited approximately 100% biocidal efficacy after eight consecutive antibacterial cycles, showing potential for long-term antibacterial applications.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of using glycidyl polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (GPOSS) as an adhesion promoter on PET cord, aiming to enhance the adhesion efficiency between PET cord and rubber. The results showed that GPOSS-coated PET yarns exhibited increased stiffness without compromising tensile strength, and improved adhesion to rubber compared to other treatment methods. Therefore, GPOSS is recommended as a potential adhesion promoter in the rubber industry.

Summary: This paper prepared core-shell fibers with reversible thermochromic function via melt coaxial electrospinning method, where the addition of NaCl was found to regulate fiber morphology and strengthen mechanical property. The high-strength reversible thermochromic fibers produced had a latent heat of up to 88.71 J/g and exhibited color change from blue to white at around 38 degrees C.

Summary: Synthetic textiles release microplastic fibers and fibrils during abrasion, with the fibers having similar diameters to the original fibers and the fibrils being much finer. The number of fibrils formed during abrasion is higher than the number of microplastic fibers, and the diameter of the fibrils falls within the inhalable size for airborne particles.
