Summary: Photopolymerization is gaining interest in both industrial and academic fields due to its high reaction kinetics, low emissions of organic solvents, and reduced shrinking stress. This method has mainly been developed for radical polymerization of vinyl monomers and to a lesser extent for ring-opening polymerization (ROP). With the emergence of new initiating systems, the photopolymerization of various cyclic monomers has expanded beyond epoxides, which were the first monomers polymerized by cationic ring-opening polymerization (CROP).

Summary: A rapid and easy immunofluorescence bioassay for SARS-CoV-2 detection was developed using a one-pot synthetic approach for the production of a graft fluorescent copolymer PPy-g-PCL. The assay showed a detection range of 6.03-8.7 LOG viral copy mL(-1) and a high correlation with RT-PCR data. This study provides new insights for simplified synthesis procedures of reporter molecules and their potential applications in sensing and diagnosis.

Summary: The researchers synthesized a series of polyethylene-graft-aPP graft copolymers and found that increasing aPP content led to decreased melting temperatures and glass transition temperatures of PE, as well as decreased crystallinity. Additionally, the linear viscoelastic behavior of the PE-g-aPP graft copolymers exhibited greatly enhanced dynamic modulus and complex viscosity, with the effect increasing as side chain number and/or length increased.

Summary: The sequence distribution of CPVB and t-St units in anionic polymerization can be controlled by adjusting the reaction temperature, allowing the synthesis of multiblock copolymers with precise compositions and chain lengths. The resulting polymers undergo cationic cyclization to exhibit unique fluorescence properties and thermal resistance.

Summary: This study investigates the influence of solvent choice and purity on the propagation rate and termination reactions in ring-opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP) reactions. It was found that the choice of solvent and its purity level can significantly affect the propagation rate and termination reactions in ROMP reactions.

Summary: Bicyclo[4.2.0]oct-6-ene-7-carboxamide can form an alternating copolymer with cyclohexene in the presence of N-heterocyclic carbene-ruthenium catalyst. By creating a gradient copolymer with two different monomers, specific surface hydrophobicity, topology, and thermal properties can be controlled.

Summary: Photochemical techniques have seen a revival due to their adaptability and ability to produce complex macromolecular structures, although their application in the polymerization of cyclic siloxane monomers has been limited. This study investigated the cationic ring-opening polymerization of Octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane (D4) using diphenyl iodonium hexafluorophosphate (DPI) as the initiator. Both direct and indirect initiation systems were examined, using benzophenone and pyrene to generate photochemically induced protonic acids and silylium cations for the polymerization. Kinetics of the polymerization were monitored using viscosimetry and GPC analysis. This approach has potential industrial importance for polysiloxane fabrication due to its ability to overcome challenges associated with conventional methods.

Summary: This study introduces a method for synthesizing well-defined polyacrylamido-b-polyether block copolymers by combining photoiniferter polymerization and organocatalytic ring-opening polymerization. The compatibility between the two polymerization systems is demonstrated, allowing for the tailored synthesis of block copolymers from chemically distinct monomers.

Summary: This study achieved Friedel-Crafts alkylation in a solvent free process, promoting the formation of SAN-co-CR co-polymers and enhancing compatibility between SAN and CR. The effects of blending temperature and time, as well as various Lewis acid compounds as catalysts, were investigated. Characterization of the resulting SAN-co-CR polymers and SAN/CR/AlCl3 blends indicated improved inter-facial reactions and proposed a unique inter-chain structure for the co-polymers.

Summary: This contribution demonstrates an efficient strategy to synthesize well-defined functional polysiloxanes using phosphazene as an organocatalyst. Linear poly(dimethylsiloxane)s (PDMSs) with different end-groups were successfully synthesized by C3N3-Me-P3-catalyzed ring-opening polymerization (ROP) and subsequent end-capping reactions. The resulting PDMSs were characterized by various techniques and showed narrow distributions and well-defined structures.

Summary: In this study, two novel photoactive xanthates were synthesized as chain transfer agents and used in RAFT/MADIX polymerization to produce mid-chain functional polystyrene macrophotoinitiators. These macrophotoinitiators were then utilized as prepolymers in photoinitiated free radical polymerization to obtain polystyrene-poly(methyl methacrylate) block copolymers with desired photoinitiator functionality.
