Summary: This study demonstrates that dispersing parts-per-million polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) nanochemicals by melt extrusion with polyolefins can improve the tensile Young's modulus, yield stress, and toughness of films without affecting extensibility. The spatial distribution of POSS and the size of nanoparticles play a key role in enhancing the mechanical properties of polymers.

Summary: The Covid-19 pandemic has highlighted the necessity for alternative production methods with low startup costs, such as electrospinning, for essential filtering needs in personal protective equipment (PPE). Recent advancements in melt electrospinning involve strategies for reducing fiber diameter to sub-micron scale by adjusting the spin-line temperature profile. Research on melt-electrospun LLDPE fibers shows that increasing the spin-line temperature above 100 degrees Celsius leads to improved tensile strength, yield strength, and toughness, while maintaining stiffness and Young's modulus. These findings are crucial for the development of medical textiles and PPE, emphasizing the importance of establishing correlations between process, structure, and properties in emerging production techniques like melt electrospinning.

Summary: This study investigates the use of drilling waste as filler in polymer composites. The results suggest that incorporating oil-based mud (OBM) clay in slurry form in the low-density polyethylene (LDPE) matrix can significantly decrease the thermal stability and mechanical properties of the composite material. It is hypothesized that the poor Van der Waals force between the polymer molecules/clay platelets and the applied force is the main reason behind the deterioration in mechanical properties.

Summary: The combination of long glass fiber-reinforced composite and recycled composites significantly altered the length distribution of glass fibers, resulting in a significant recovery of mechanical properties of the recycled composites. The mixing ratio, number of recycles, and distribution of glass fiber length all have an impact on the mechanical properties of the composites.

Summary: This study demonstrates the enhancement of mechanical properties of post-consumer polypropylene (r-PP) composites through three different surface treatments, with particular emphasis on the superior tensile, flexural, and impact strength, as well as water absorption, of the r-PP/YM30/APTS and r-PP/YM30/PP-g-MA composites. This highlights the potential of these treatments in obtaining composites with recycled matrix with better properties.

Summary: The study fabricated nanocomposites with aligned graphene platelets by incorporating them into an epoxy matrix through mechanical mixing and sonication, followed by applying an electric field to align the platelets before curing. Experimental results showed that the nanocomposites with aligned graphene exhibited higher tensile moduli and strength compared to those with randomly oriented graphene. In addition, nanocomposites with functionalized graphene showed superior interfacial and mechanical properties when compared to those with reduced graphene oxide.
