Summary: We have investigated the effect of achiral substituents on the chiral supramolecular architectures of diketopyrrolo[3,4-c]pyrrole-1,2,3-1H-triazole (DPP) dyes. By decorating the same chiral DPP motif with different substituent groups, we observed significant differences in optical, chiroptical, electrochemical and thermal properties among the three dyes. Our findings provide valuable insights for the development of chiral organic opto-electronics and other innovative technological applications.

Summary: Different azoderivative dyes were incorporated into uncolored poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVOH). The linear birefringence increased with stretching degree for both uncolored and colored films. Dichroism of the PVOH films depended on the dye chemical structure and stretching degree.

Summary: The newly developed family of pyrimidyl-enolate-based bisboron complexes, DB1-3, exhibit intense fluorescence in both solution and solid-state with high quantum yields. Despite their propeller-shaped structure, these complexes display strong fluorescence in diluted solution due to efficient steric hindrance induced by phenyl rings, as well as highly efficient solid-state fluorescence.

Summary: This study reported two novel chiral squaraine dyes and their achiral counterparts, which were aggregated in solution and in thin films. The co-assembled structures exhibited exceptional photophysical properties, with the circular dichroism reaching a maximum when just 25% of the chiral dye was present in the mixture.

Summary: A coating with a porous structure, good adhesion to the substrate, and containing titanium dioxide modifications has been obtained through plasma electrolytic oxidation. Gold nanoparticles were deposited on the surface to form a Ti/TiO2/Au composite. The presence of the gold layer resulted in an increase in photocurrent densities. The number of charge carriers and flat band potential were calculated for the materials.

Summary: The study demonstrates that the ferroelectric properties and crystalline structure of pure zirconia thin films are influenced by film thickness, with an increase in thickness leading to a higher m-phase fraction. Futhermore, a phase transition from orthorhombic to cubic and tetragonal phases was observed as the thickness increased.

Summary: This study evaluates the aesthetical performances of thermochromic coatings for outdoor applications, focusing on their efficiency in different primers and the protective role of a transparent topcoat. Results show that the double-layer coating exhibits remarkable color-changing behavior even when exposed to aggressive environments, with the transparent topcoat maintaining the integrity of the cataphoretic primer.

Summary: It has been long known that dyes and pigments degrade when exposed to light, which is why light-sensitive items are packaged in light-tight materials and museums use UV-blocking filters. The chemistry behind this degradation is complex, with factors such as irradiation source, intensity, time, oxygen, temperature, catalysts, and concentration affecting the process. Research on photodegradation of dyes and pigments, as well as analysis of the degradation products, have been conducted to support understanding and find ways to prevent it.

Summary: This study reports a novel solution-processed approach to fabricate high-quality, large-area alpha-Ag2S thin films. Ultrafast terahertz conductivity measurements show efficient charge transport in the films. Additionally, introducing poly(vinyl alcohol) enables the synthesis of free-standing alpha-Ag2S thin films for flexible optoelectronics.

Summary: CoFe2O4 thin films with various solution concentrations were prepared and their physical and electrochemical properties were studied. The results showed that CoFe2O4 thin films have high absorption coefficient, low electrical resistivity, and good electrochemical performance. Therefore, CoFe2O4 thin films are potential electrode materials for energy storage applications.

Summary: The intercalation of methylene blue (MB) into thin multilayered graphene oxide (GO) films was found to be significantly stronger than that of crystal violet (CV) and rose bengal (RB). This is attributed to the difference in the geometrical shape of planar MB compared to essentially nonflat CV and RB molecules. Additionally, graphite oxides and restacked GO films exhibit different sorptions of MB.

Summary: The study aimed to improve the embedding of HH in the silica film layer on cotton fabric by modifying HH through grafting of GPTMS or VTES. The fabrics modified with HH grafted with GPTMS showed better flame retardancy and higher tensile strength compared to those with HH grafted with VTES. This indicates a significant impact of grafting on fabric performance.

Summary: This study investigated the coating of cotton fabric with huntite-hydromagnesite (HH) or ammonium polyphosphate (APP) solutions as anionic layer and chitosan solutions and nanosols as cationic layer by layer assembly. The growth bilayer number, drying conditions, and anionic layer type affected the flame retardancy and antibacterial properties of the coating. The results showed significant reductions in heat release rate, smoke release, and mass loss rate for fabric samples coated with APP solutions for 15 layers with drying after every dipping process (AP15DE) and fabric samples coated with HH solutions for 15 layers with drying after every dipping process (H15DE). The coatings also exhibited antibacterial activity against E. coli and S. aureus.
