Cubic zirconia single-crystals (yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ)) have been irradiated with 4 MeV Au2+ ions in a broad fluence range (namely from 5 x 10(12) to 2 x 10(16) cm(-2)) and at five temperatures: 80, 300, 573, 773, and 1073 K. Irradiated samples have been characterized by Rutherford backscattering spectroscopy in channeling mode, X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy techniques in order to determine the disordering kinetics. All experimental results show that, whatever is the irradiation temperature, the damage build-up follows a multi-step process. In addition, the disorder level at high fluence is very similar for all temperatures. Thus, no enhanced dynamic annealing process is observed. On the other hand, transitions in the damage accumulation process occur earlier in fluence with increasing temperature. It is shown that temperature as low as 573K is sufficient to accelerate the disordering process in ion-irradiated YSZ. (C) 2014 AIP Publishing LLC.

Performance-based outcome measures of dexterity and hand function in person with hands and wrist injuries: A scoping review of measured constructs

Joshua Yong, Joy C. MacDermid, Tara Packham, Pavlos Bobos, Julie Richardson, Sandra Moll

Summary: There is currently no consensus on measuring dexterity, and the performance-based outcome measures of dexterity and hand function (PBOMD) lack precise definitions and operationalization. These measures primarily use speed as the criterion for evaluating performance, ignoring other important aspects such as adapting to environmental changes.

Experiences of inpatient rehabilitation from the perspective of persons with acquired brain injury

Janelle Panday, Diana Velikonja, Sandra E. Moll, Jocelyn E. Harris

Summary: The research found that acquired brain injury significantly disrupted personal identity, resulting in tensions in autonomy while attempting to reclaim a sense of identity. It is suggested to provide counseling services and strategies supporting post-injury adjustment, along with ways for rehabilitation professionals to enhance patient autonomy where possible.

The Dance of Family Engagement in School-Based Occupational Therapy: An Interpretive Description

Jennifer N. Kennedy, Sandra Moll, Cheryl Missiuna, Jennifer Yost, Sarah Terreberry, Wenonah N. Campbell

Summary: This study explores the experiences of family engagement in school-based occupational therapy services, highlighting the importance of therapists' and families' abilities, expectations, trust, communication, emotional connections, and contextual factors. Significant changes in practice, such as adopting needs-based service delivery models, are necessary to increase the value families place on this service.

Exploring the disability experiences of South Asian Women living with HIV in Southern Ontario, Canada

Saipriya Vajravelu, Kelly K. O'Brien, Sandra Moll, Patricia Solomon

Summary: The purpose of this study was to understand the lived experiences of disability among South Asian women living with HIV in Canada. Through qualitative interviews, the study identified two overarching themes - experiencing disability and experiencing discrimination. It was found that, in addition to physical and mental health impairments, the intersection of illness, gender, ethnicity, HIV-stigma, and discrimination influenced the disability experiences.

Texts influencing the accommodation process of students with disabilities in professional rehabilitation programs: an analysis of discourse

Shaminder Dhillon, Magda Stroinska, Sandra Moll, Patricia Solomon

Summary: This study used critical discourse analysis to identify different positions of educators in professional programs like occupational therapy and physiotherapy, which are in conflict with each other in accommodating students with disabilities. Conscious changes are needed to ensure inclusivity within these professions.

Role Identity, Dissonance, and Distress among Paramedics

Justin Mausz, Elizabeth Anne Donnelly, Sandra Moll, Sheila Harms, Meghan McConnell

Summary: Role identity theory describes the purpose and meaning in life that comes from occupying social roles, but this may become unideal when individuals are unable to fulfill important roles as they believe they should. In a study on paramedics, incongruence between perceived and actual role identity led to emotional and psychological distress, with some participants able to adapt while others experienced irreconcilable dissonance, impacting their work abilities and mental health.

The relationship between role identity and mental health among paramedics

Justin Mausz, Elizabeth A. Donnelly, Sandra Moll, Sheila Harms, Walter Tavares, Meghan McConnell

Summary: The study found no significant relationship between paramedic role identity and symptoms of mental disorders, but identified interesting differences in role identity across demographic categories that challenge previous characterizations of the profession and warrant further investigation.

Adaptive gold/vanadium dioxide periodic arrays for infrared optical modulation

Adrian Ionut Bercea, Corinne Champeaux, Alexandre Boulle, Catalin Daniel Constantinescu, Julie Cornette, Maggy Colas, Sylvain Vedraine, Frederic Dumas-Bouchiat

Summary: LSPR modulation is achieved through the synthesis and shape modifications of nanoplatelet arrays. The combination of the nanoplatelet arrays with a thermochromic material leads to a smart nanocomposite with modulated absorptions. Experimental and modeling investigations demonstrate that the modulation originates from the formation of a core-shell structure.

Revisiting the Do-Live-Well Health Promotion Framework: A Citation Content Analysis

Kennedy A. Hamilton, Lori J. Letts, Nadine Lariviere, Sandra E. Moll

Summary: This article explores and reflects on the adoption and application of the Do-Live-Well (DLW) framework in the literature since its publication in 2015. The findings reveal that the framework has been widely applied in research, practice, and knowledge translation, providing valuable insights into the occupational perspective of health and well-being. To further enhance the utility and application of the framework, ongoing knowledge dissemination, development of practice tools, and research to update evidence and examine relevance are needed.

Defect evolution under intense electronic energy deposition in uranium dioxide

G. Gutierrez, H. Guessous, D. Gosset, M. Bricout, I. Monnet, F. Garrido, C. Onofri, G. Adroit, A. Debelle

Summary: The coupled effects of nuclear and electronic energy losses were investigated in uranium dioxide (UO2). Single and sequential ion irradiations were carried out to study the effect of electronic ionizations on the ballistic damage. It was observed that high-energy ions induce significant changes in defect distribution and accelerate the transformation from dislocation loops to dislocation lines. Surprisingly, with the increase of 92 MeV Xe ions, the stress starts to increase again, suggesting a possible synergetic effect between pre-existing defects and those generated by the irradiation.

A Web-Based Gender-Sensitive Educational Simulation on Vocational Rehabilitation for Service Providers Working With Youth With Disabilities: Pilot Evaluation

Sally Lindsay, Nicole Thomson, Sandra Moll, Angela Colantonio, Jennifer Stinson

Summary: The objective of the study was to evaluate an educational simulation for service providers focusing on gender-sensitive approaches in vocational rehabilitation for youth with disabilities. The results showed that the simulation content was relevant and comprehensive, and it helped to increase participants' knowledge and understanding of gender-sensitive approaches, as well as their confidence. The study suggests that the educational simulation has potential as a tool for service providers, but further research with larger samples is needed to assess its impact.
