Summary: Historical vegetation studies often provide incomplete data for estimating total aboveground biomass (AGB), limiting accuracy in traditional estimation methods. However, new methods developed in this study can more accurately estimate AGB using incomplete data. By applying different methods to tropical forest plot data, these methods have the potential to expand large-scale baseline AGB assessments from historical studies.

Summary: This article reviews the survival and growth of tree species planted in degraded peatlands across Southeast Asia. It found significant differences among species and observed some effects of seedling and site treatments on survival and growth. Leaf nutrient and wood density traits were found to predict species survival but not half-life and growth rates. The study suggests expanding the number of species planted and testing different treatments to advance tropical peat swamp reforestation efforts.

The Malesian Naturalized Alien Flora database (MalNAF) is introduced as a standardized checklist for naturalized vascular plant species in the Malesian phytogeographical region. This database provides valuable information on the composition, origins, and habitat preferences of the naturalized flora in the region.

Summary: This review discusses the biogeochemical characteristics of tropical peatlands and explores the impacts of human activities such as deforestation, fire, drainage, and agriculture on these systems. Tropical peatlands store a significant amount of carbon, but they are increasingly threatened by anthropogenic modifications, which result in carbon loss, increased greenhouse gas emissions, and hydrological disruptions. With a warming climate, these impacts are expected to escalate, posing risks to carbon stocks in disturbed and intact peat swamps.
