Summary: The aim of the study was to identify factors associated with extractions within 5 years after root fillings in the adult Swedish population. Various individual- and tooth-specific variables were found to be associated with extractions, with restoration type and composite restorations showing high odds ratios for extractions. Further research is needed to understand the reasons for extractions.

Summary: This study analyzed new root canal sealers using techniques such as Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy. The results showed that these sealers had diverse surface morphologies, consisting of irregular micro-sized particles, and they lacked heavy metals. The main components of these sealers were calcium, oxygen, and carbon.

Summary: Adequate knowledge of root canal morphology and possible variations is crucial for successful root canal treatment. This study included 3420 samples from 285 cone-beam computed tomography images of Saudi residents, revealing a higher prevalence of canal variations in mandibular permanent anteriors and limited gender differences in root canal morphology except for canines.

Summary: The present study aims to assess the morphology of roots and canals in permanent mandibular premolars in the Saudi subpopulation with a new classification system. The study found that single-rooted premolars accounted for approximately 47% while double-rooted premolars accounted for about 2%. There was a higher diversity of root canal configurations in males.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the canal cleanliness using a novel irrigation device with ultrasonic and manual irrigation in extracted teeth. The results showed that passive ultrasonic irrigation significantly reduced the smear layer and debris scores in the root canal compared to the other two methods.

Summary: The preparation of severely curved S-shaped double-curved root canals can be technically challenging. A novel root canal instrumentation technique is proposed, which modifies 2 techniques: the McSpadden crown-down technique and the tactile controlled activation technique. The proposed technique recommends 3 apical strokes after the initial engagement before withdrawal to minimize instrumentation time. This technique presents a new method of crown-down instrumentation that prevents overflaring and avoids instrument separation.

Summary: The study aimed to assess the weight of apically extruded debris during root canal preparation using instruments with different movement kinematics. The results showed that engine-driven root canal preparation with various instruments led to similar levels of apical extrusion of debris.

Summary: Most studies used single-rooted human teeth and rotary files for root canal preparation, a single-cone technique for filling protocol, and rotary instruments for post space preparation. The delayed post space preparation led to more apical leakage compared to immediate preparation in some studies, while others found no significant difference between the two. Further studies are needed to determine the influence of timing of post space preparation on other parameters.

Summary: The study aimed to compare the incidence of cracks within radicular dentin after instrumentation with different kinematics tools. Partial cracks were observed in all study groups, with no significant differences among experimental groups, indicating that instrumentation with PTN, WOG, and TF may result in dentinal cracks formation.

Summary: This paper reviews the literature on root canal configuration (RCC) and root structure of permanent mandibular premolars. A systematic search was conducted on four electronic databases to find relevant scientific literature up to July 2022. The selected studies focused on mandibular premolars, including their root and canal system, morphology, along with anatomy. The findings of the study revealed the prevalence of different RCC types and the use of CBCT imaging for studying the structural characteristics of mandibular premolars.

The results showed no significant difference in postoperative pain and analgesic intake between the two techniques.

Summary: Descriptive morphology of tooth roots traditionally focuses on number of canals and roots. However, the relationship between canal and root number is poorly understood. This study examined fully developed, adult post-canine teeth from a global sample of 945 modern humans and found that root number is dependent on canal number. This relationship becomes more variable as canal number increases and differs between individual teeth and geographical groups, changing with distance from Sub-Saharan Africa.
