Summary: The interactive alternating forward extrusion (AFE) method can change the texture type and weaken the texture strength. The texture evolution of interactive AFE was studied using AZ31 magnesium alloy as an example. The results show that various dynamic recrystallization behaviors can weaken the texture to different degrees, with twinning-induced recrystallization having a particularly significant effect. The formation of a stable fiber texture was observed during the AFE process.

Summary: The effects of original orientations on the dynamic recrystallization behaviors of a hot-rolled Mg-1.0wt% Ca plate were investigated. It was found that dynamic recrystallization occurred more easily in the normal direction sample at the same temperature. As the temperature increased, the area fraction and size of the dynamic recrystallized grains improved faster in the rolling direction sample. The Mg-1.0wt%Ca alloy significantly postponed both the continuous and discontinuous dynamic recrystallization processes compared to commercial Mg alloys.

Summary: This study investigates the variation in LPSO structures, dynamic recrystallization, and mechanical performance of Mg89Y4Zn2Li5 alloys fabricated at different extrusion speeds and die angles. It is found that the block 18R LPSO structures elongate while the lamellar 14H LPSO structures dissolve. The hot-extruded alloys exhibit a full DRX microstructure, and the DRX grain size decreases with decreasing extrusion speed and die angle. The Mg89Y4Zn2Li5 alloy achieves an excellent strength-ductility balance at a low extrusion speed and small die angle.

Summary: Processing of 99.9% pure, as-cast magnesium by Equal Channel Angular Extrusion significantly reduces grain size to around 30 μm after the second pass, but grain size varies after the third and fourth passes depending on extrusion rate. Slower rates lead to an increase in grain size after the third and fourth passes, while the fastest rate maintains relatively consistent grain size. The presence of twins in microstructures also varies with extrusion rate.

Summary: This paper reports the application of cold-sample rolling (CSR) processing in a Mg-6Al-1Zn alloy sheet, which resulted in a high fraction of double twins and a substantial texture-weakening effect. Compared to high-temperature rolling (HTR) processing, CSR processing induced a relatively higher texture-weakening effect. The results indicate that twinning-mediated static recrystallization is essential for texture weakening in Al-concentrated Mg-alloy sheets.

Summary: We report the formation of an unusual texture on the sheet-surface of a rolled Mg-3Al-0.4Mn alloy, where a typical basal texture is formed at the center of the sheet and an unusual texture with vertical tiling is observed at the sheet-surface. The surface promotes prismatic slips and dynamic recrystallization, leading to a high fraction of fine basal-textured grains and a small fraction of off-basal-textured grains. In contrast, the center preserves a relatively high fraction of deformed grains, promoting the growth of basal-textured grains and the formation of the typical basal texture.

Summary: This study investigates the origin of the unique parallel alignment of (0001) poles to the transverse direction in rolled alloy sheets. It is found that intermediate reheating during rolling facilitates static recrystallization and leads to the formation of the parallel alignment of (0001) poles to the transverse direction. In contrast, continuous rolling without intermediate reheating suppresses the formation of the unique alignment. The presence of severely deformed regions near double twins hinders the nucleation and growth of statically recrystallized grains, resulting in in-plane anisotropy in ductility.

Summary: Extensive research has revealed that oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in alkaline conditions involves dynamic surface restructuring. The development and design of sulfide/oxide pre-catalysts can reasonably adjust the composition and structure after surface reconstruction, which is crucial for OER. This study utilized a simple two-step hydrothermal method to achieve in situ S leaching and doping, inducing the composition change and structure reconstruction of CoFe oxides. The transformed FeOOH and CoOOH exhibited excellent OER activity and could be easily mass-produced using low-cost iron based materials and simple methods.

Summary: Zero-dimensional organic-inorganic metal halides (OMHs) are gaining attention in the fabrication of light-emitting diodes due to their broad emission band and high photoluminescence quantum yield. This work synthesized a zero-dimensional organic tetraphenylphosphonium bismuth chloride (TBC) that showed efficient blue light emission, with the emission mechanism attributed to the transition of Bi3+ ions. White light-emitting diodes (WLEDs) were fabricated using TBC, along with green-emitting and red-emitting single crystals, achieving single-component white emissions. These findings demonstrate the different emission mechanism of ns2 ions-based OMHs and highlight the potential of bismuth-based OMHs in WLEDs applications.

Summary: The revolutionary design concept of high-entropy alloys has brought new opportunities and challenges to the development of advanced metal materials. In this work, AlCrCuFe2NiTix high-entropy flux cored wires were prepared by combining the design idea of a high-entropy alloy with the characteristics of flux cored wire. AlCr-CuFe2NiTix high-entropy surfacing alloys were prepared using gas metal arc welding technology. The wear properties of the alloys were analyzed, and the phase composition, microstructure, strengthening mechanism, and wear mechanism were discussed. The results show that the alloys exhibit a dendritic microstructure with BCC/B2 + FCC phases. Increasing Ti content leads to the precipitation of Laves phase. The alloys show improved microhardness and wear resistance due to the precipitation of coherent B2 and Laves phases. However, excessive Ti addition results in the increase of Laves phase and reduced wear resistance of the alloys.
