Summary: The study revealed that anthocyanin-rich bilberry extract can affect gene expression in the hippocampus, regulating various biological processes such as neurogenesis, inflammation, and metabolism. This multi-target mode of action suggests that anthocyanins may exert neuroprotective effects by binding to top transcription factors, leading to the regulation of gene expression.

Summary: This study found that bilberry anthocyanins have a modulating effect on the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease. They reduce amyloid plaque load and beta-amyloid 1-42 levels, improve mitochondrial morphology, and decrease NO and ROS levels. In HT22 cells, bilberry anthocyanins also protect against A beta 42-induced cytotoxicity by reducing ROS levels and restoring mitochondrial homeostasis, partly through the upregulation of Mfn2. These findings suggest that bilberry anthocyanins can protect against the development of Alzheimer's disease by restoring mitochondrial homeostasis.

Summary: Sea cucumber-derived sulfated sterols showed more significant bioactivities due to the unique structure of the sulfate group, but their absorption, pharmacokinetics, and tissue distribution remain unknown. This study investigated the absorption characteristics, pharmacokinetics, and tissue distribution of sea cucumber sterols, finding that they are absorbed quickly and mainly accumulate in the liver. These results provide insights for the development of functional foods and nutraceuticals containing sea cucumber sterols.

Summary: The paper corrects Proposition 1 in Schoenmaker's article in Economics Letters (111, 2011, 57-59), pointing out that it is stated ambiguously and misleadingly. The author presents a correction to Schoenmaker's conclusion in his financial integration model, showing that there always exists an efficient equilibrium where countries contribute enough to rescue the ailing bank, regardless of the level of financial integration. Therefore, financial stability, national financial policies, and financial integration are compatible in Schoenmaker's model. (c) 2023 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Summary: This study investigated the pharmacokinetic parameters of demethyleneberberine and compared its pharmacokinetics, tissue distribution, and excretion in rats and mice for the first time. The results showed that demethyleneberberine had high bioavailability in animals, which is of great significance for pharmacological and clinical research.

Summary: Short-term bilberry supplementation in patients with type 2 diabetes did not have significant effects on glycemic control, lipid profile, antioxidant status, or inflammatory status. However, the trend towards improved glycemic control may suggest that longer treatment periods could be effective in diabetic patients.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the effect of a combination supplement of bilberry extract and fish oil on patients with severe dry eyes. The results showed improvements in various indicators after taking the supplement for 3 months, regardless of age. Further research is recommended to obtain more accurate conclusions using device-based measures and a placebo supplement.

Summary: The study found that silver nanoparticles can be absorbed into the blood and may be distributed extensively in organs by crossing physiological barriers in mice, leading to changes in blood cell toxicity and GSH levels. In addition, silver was distributed to different organs post-exposure but decreased over time, indicating potential accumulation.
