Summary: The incidence of ischemic stroke after a first-time transient ischemic attack (TIA) is 6.1% during a 5-year follow-up period, which is higher than the background population but lower than patients with recurrent ischemic stroke. TIA patients also have a higher mortality rate.

Summary: Pathologies associated with sarcopenia include decline in muscular strength, lean mass and regenerative capacity. This study investigates the therapeutic potential of METRNL to improve aged muscle through improving muscle regeneration and countering age-related loss in muscle resilience by triggering apoptosis of fibro/adipogenic progenitor cells.

Summary: This study found that early treatment with a 30-day combination therapy of ticagrelor plus aspirin is highly cost-effective for patients with acute mild-to-moderate ischemic stroke or transient ischemic attack in China.

Summary: The study revealed that hospitals admitting higher percentages of TIA patients and having higher emergency physician staffing showed better performance on TIA process measures, with increased emergency physician staffing associated with improved outcomes 90 days after TIA.

Summary: This study found that anxiety/depression and fatigue-related disabilities may influence stroke survivors' ability to return to paid work within 3 months after stroke. Higher stroke severity and hyperlipidemia were also associated with not returning to paid work at 3 months.

Summary: The characteristics of plaque in the middle cerebral artery (MCA) and hemodynamics may help predict the occurrence of ischemic stroke and neurological impairment. Intraplaque hemorrhage (IPH) and anterograde score (AnS) are independent predictors for stroke occurrence. Tmax > 6.0-s volume, IPH, hypertension, and AnS are associated with neurological impairment in patients.

Summary: Transient ischemic attack (TIA) is a temporary neurologic deficit caused by ischemic insult to the brain, spinal cord, or retina. TIA is associated with a high risk of impending acute ischemic stroke (AIS), a condition characterized by focal infarction in the brain, spinal cord, or retina. This study investigated the differences in circulating microRNA profiles between AIS and TIA patients and identified a panel of differentially regulated microRNAs. Furthermore, a multivariate classifier was developed that could potentially be used as a biomarker to distinguish AIS and TIA patients. Understanding the molecular pathways in AIS compared to TIA may have important implications for therapeutic targeting in clinical translation.

Summary: This study investigated the association between CYP2B6 polymorphisms and the efficacy of clopidogrel in patients with minor stroke or transient ischemic attack. The results showed no significant difference in the efficacy of aspirin plus clopidogrel compared with aspirin alone, regardless of the presence of CYP2B6 polymorphisms. Therefore, both carriers and noncarriers of CYP2B6 polymorphisms may benefit from aspirin plus clopidogrel treatment for secondary stroke prevention.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate common coping strategies and the occurrence of posttraumatic growth in patients with transient ischemic attack (TIA). Interviews with TIA patients revealed various physical impairments and identified activating resources and avoiding negative thoughts and feelings as relevant coping strategies. Posttraumatic growth was found to be a common phenomenon after TIA, with potential implications for treatment and rehabilitation.

Summary: There is evidence suggesting that TIA has cognitive consequences beyond the risk of recurrent stroke. TIA can provide insights into early mixed vascular-neurodegenerative cognitive decline and serve as a warning event for stroke and dementia prevention. This review discusses the challenges in studying TIA-related cognitive impairment and provides an overview of transient and long-term cognitive impairment after TIA.

Summary: The THALES trial showed that adding ticagrelor to aspirin in acute mild-moderate ischemic stroke or high-risk transient ischemic attack patients reduced the risk of stroke or death compared to placebo. Although there was an increased risk of severe hemorrhage, the overall net clinical impact favored ticagrelor-aspirin treatment.
