Summary: Current clinical practice guidelines for neonatal hyperbilirubinemia vary in quality and recommendations, particularly in terms of treatment initiation threshold and pharmacotherapy. Future guideline development should pay more attention to the quality of the development process and incorporate more qualified evidence to standardize treatment initiation threshold.

Summary: This study reports on knowledge translation strategies and outcomes from the implementation of early detection guidelines for cerebral palsy in a state-wide tertiary early intervention service. The study found that the implementation strategies effectively reduced referral age and improved the delivery of early detection assessments. Furthermore, social determinants such as social disadvantage and adverse childhood experiences were found to be associated with early detection outcomes.

Summary: This article introduces the impact of rare diseases on patients and the existing problems within the European Union. It also provides recommendations and methods for developing and reporting high-quality clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) for rare neurological diseases (RNDs). Through a consensus procedure, 63 final items were identified. These recommendations provide solutions to the specific issues of RNDs and are considered as a starting point for further harmonization and improving the quality of CPGs.

Summary: Recent research has revealed the importance of high diversity in gut microbiota for maintaining health and the beneficial effects of certain bacteria on various host functions. Changes in microbiome are associated not only with nutrition-related diseases such as obesity and diabetes, but also with chronic inflammatory, oncologic, and neurological abnormalities. The challenge for microbiome-based biomedical research is to translate knowledge into clinical practice and identify potential targets for intervention studies.

Summary: The online neurology intern training course based on SPOC and blending learning mode received positive recognition from interns, with 99% recommending its incorporation into traditional offline training programs post-pandemic. Additionally, smaller learning group sizes (<15 students) were found to have a better teaching effect, with interns preferring interactive discussions and practical feedback over video watching and lectures.

Summary: Concussion, a common brain injury, is defined as a traumatically or biomechanically induced alteration of brain function by the American Academy of Neurology. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimate millions of sport and recreational mTBIs occurring annually in the United States, with high school sports alone contributing to a significant number of cases. Sports arena serves as a valuable scientific environment for studying the natural history, consequences, and intervention opportunities of mTBI.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the impact of demographic and clinical characteristics on the likelihood of developing drug resistance in children with epilepsy. Among the 101 children included in the study, 56 showed a good response to antiseizure medications, while 45 had a poor response. Younger patients, those without parental consanguinity and family history of epilepsy, and those diagnosed with partial seizures without adverse effects showed a statistically significant good response to antiseizure medications.

Summary: Neurological complications in pregnancy and the puerperium can be challenging to diagnose and manage clinically. This review analyzes common red flag symptoms associated with conditions such as pre-eclampsia, eclampsia, HELLP syndrome, and stroke. A rapid diagnostic algorithm is provided to aid in early diagnosis and treatment. A guide is essential for obstetrics specialists to navigate the complexities of clinical reasoning.

Summary: This study aims to investigate whether early add-on IVIg treatment can achieve better clinical outcomes compared to prednisone monotherapy in newly diagnosed myositis patients. The study is a double-blind placebo-controlled randomized trial, involving 48 patients who will be divided into two groups: one group receiving IVIg treatment and the other group receiving placebo, in addition to prednisone therapy. The primary outcome is the Total Improvement Score (TIS) of the myositis response criteria at 12 weeks. Relevant secondary outcomes include time to moderate improvement, mean daily prednisone dosage, physical activity, health-related quality of life, fatigue, and MRI muscle imaging parameters. Ethical approval has been obtained and the results will be disseminated through conferences and peer-reviewed publications.
