Summary: The study found that male breast cancer (MBC) patients without BRCA1/2 mutations have significantly higher odds of a family history of breast cancer, suggesting the existence of unidentified MBC susceptibility alleles.

Summary: Twin studies suggest a familial aggregation of bladder cancer, with individuals having a first-degree relative with bladder cancer having nearly double the risk of developing bladder cancer. Additionally, a family history of female genital cancer, melanoma, and tobacco-associated cancer also increased the risk of bladder cancer.

Summary: It is important to go beyond the general view of cancer and consider it as a systemic disease involving multiple interactions within the body. The body climate, defined as the emergent property resulting from internal and external interactions, can either prevent or promote cancer initiation and progression. The imbalance of the entire system reflected by cancer provides an integrated framework for studying the disease and identifying strategies to prevent or manipulate the body internal climate to hinder cancer progression.

Summary: Binary classification is biased by recent history, with one common form of bias being repulsive bias. This study used fMRI to explore human brains and found that the origin of the repulsive bias in binary classification is more likely to be boundary-updating rather than sensory-adaptation. The stimulus-encoding signal in the early visual cortex showed adaptation to previous stimuli, but its changes were not related to current choices, while the boundary-representing signals in other brain areas shifted to previous stimuli and covaried with current choices.

Summary: The deregulation of fatty acid metabolism is associated with cancer development, with ACSL family members playing different roles in cancer progression, some promoting cancer and some having inhibitory effects, while also participating in cell death processes. ACSLs may serve as important therapeutic targets and biomarkers for cancer treatment.

Summary: Approximately 5-10% of breast cancer cases are caused by germline pathogenic variants in cancer predisposition genes. BRCA1 and BRCA2 are the most common genes associated with hereditary breast cancer. Other genes such as ATM, BARD1, CHEK2, PALB2, RAD51C, and RAD51D have also been identified as having moderate to high risk of breast cancer. The optimal preventive strategies for most hereditary breast cancers are still undetermined. Understanding the functions of breast cancer-associated genes can help estimate genetic risk and guide preventive and therapeutic strategies.

Summary: A screening center in Soweto, South Africa investigated high-risk HPV, HIV, and cervical cancer risk among women. The study found high prevalence of HR-HPV infection in South African women, low coverage of cervical cancer screening, and that younger women are more susceptible to LSIL and other HR-HPV infections. It suggests implementing HPV-based primary screening starting from age 25.

Summary: This study examined the effects of FHH-based CRC prevention education on Chinese Americans non-adherent to screening guidelines, showing increased communication and FOBT uptake but no significant lifestyle changes. Personalized education and longer follow-ups may be needed in future studies to promote lifestyle changes among Chinese Americans.

Summary: High resolution coherent multidimensional spectroscopy can reduce congestion and automatically sort peaks, but the complexity of three-dimensional spectroscopy can be overcome by strategic placement of 2D scans and new pattern recognition methods. Optimum four wave mixing processes and scanning strategies have been identified, with experiments based on nonparametric FWM processes providing significant pattern recognition advantages. Alternative scanning strategies such as synchronous and asynchronous scanning have also been found to create new patterns in 3D space.

Summary: This study used local health care costs and epidemiological inputs to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of adopting hrHPV testing in cervical cancer screening program in Indaiatuba, Brazil. The results showed that hrHPV testing and a hybrid strategy were more cost-effective compared to the old cytology program.

Summary: A family history of prostate cancer is associated with an increased risk of developing the disease. This study examines how the number, degree, and age of relatives with prostate cancer are related to overall survival and prostate cancer-specific survival in prostate cancer patients.

Summary: Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) has a poor prognosis with lack of effective screening strategies and limited treatment options. However, germline variants in certain genes are emerging as potential targets for PDAC treatment and prevention, with important implications for broad cancer prevention.

Summary: Large-scale studies on the association between family history and colorectal cancer (CRC) risk in Asians are lacking. We conducted a study in the Korean population and found that individuals with a family history of CRC, especially in younger age groups, had a higher risk of developing CRC compared to those without a family history.

Summary: Animals refer to past experiences when processing current sensory inputs, and update previous memories through neural networks. This study reveals that a cellular ensemble in the posterior parietal cortex of mice interacts with the anterior cingulate cortex through a circuit to update memory by incorporating past and current information.

Summary: This study revealed the high-risk factor of family history in colorectal cancer (CRC) and identified specific genes associated with tumor mutational burden and microsatellite instability. A gene cluster related to family risk was established, providing potential biomarkers for diagnosis and treatment of CRC patients.
