Summary: This study compared the efficacy of darunavir-based regimens and dolutegravir-based regimens in clinical practice, with a focus on pre-treatment drug resistance mutations and HIV-1 subtype. The results showed that dolutegravir-based regimens had a superior efficacy in terms of time to virological failure compared to darunavir-based regimens, and pre-treatment drug resistance mutations and HIV-1 subtype influenced the treatment outcomes.

Summary: This study introduces a novel 'ratio' model to explore the long-term effects of the growing population of HIV-treated individuals in Southern Africa on both individuals and the public health sector. Results show that children were closer to healthy CD4+ counts compared to adults, and adults had a higher CD4+ growth rate post-ART initiation.

Summary: This study showed that 12 mg/kg twice daily raltegravir chewable tablets administered to HIV-positive children aged 4 weeks to <2 years concurrently receiving rifampin for TB treatment achieved pharmacokinetic targets safely.

Summary: A large proportion of people living with HIV in sub-Saharan Africa reside in rural areas, and limited knowledge is available about the enablers and barriers of adherence to antiretroviral treatment in these populations. In a cohort study of 501 adult PLHIV on ART at a rural South African treatment facility, we found that male gender, food insecurity, and depressive symptoms were independent risk factors for virological failure. Low household income and task-oriented coping were protective against suboptimal pill-count adherence. These findings highlight the importance of addressing the impact of socio-economic and psychosocial factors on treatment outcomes in rural settings.

Summary: This study found a higher incidence of LRTI-D caused by HPIV-3 in patients with HM and HSCT, with significantly higher viral loads in respiratory samples compared to non-hematological patients. These findings may help improve understanding of diagnosis and treatment for HM patients, and provide important insights for reducing complications caused by HPIV-3 infection in HSCT patients.

Summary: The accuracy of the bacterial lung microbiome composition is highly dependent on the primers used for amplification of the 16s rRNA hypervariable sequence. Comparing two different primer pairs, results show that S-V4 primer pair provides better agreement with conventional microbiology for respiratory samples compared to R-V4 primer pair.

Summary: The use of the ID NOW COVID-19 system in an emergency department was found to significantly reduce the length of stay for patients. The implementation of molecular point-of-care testing for SARS-CoV-2 resulted in faster results and decreased overcrowding in the emergency department. This study emphasizes the importance and benefits of COVID-19 molecular point-of-care testing in preventing overcrowding and facilitating patient care and isolation.
