Summary: This study aimed to assess the benefits of immediate postoperative MRI in patients with or without postoperative symptoms and its correlation with these symptoms. The results showed that immediate postoperative MRI did not correlate with postoperative pain, while intraoperative bleeding and the Charlson comorbidity index showed significant correlations with postoperative pain. In a multivariate analysis, intraoperative blood loss and the Charlson comorbidity index independently correlated with postoperative pain, even with normal findings on MRI.

Summary: This study aimed to determine whether intraoperative use of esketamine could reduce acute postoperative pain in bariatric surgery patients. The patients were divided into a control group and an esketamine group, and the esketamine group showed significantly lower pain scores and reduced use of additional painkillers compared to the control group. The study suggests that intraoperative use of esketamine can effectively reduce acute postoperative pain in bariatric surgery patients.

Summary: This study investigated postoperative opioid usage among patients undergoing breast surgeries and recommended a set number of opioid pills for discharge. The results indicate that most breast surgery patients can be discharged with fewer than 10 opioid pills, except under special circumstances. Utilization of a standardized discharge opioids protocol can effectively reduce the number of opioids prescribed to patients.

Summary: The study compared local anesthetic injection, transversus abdominis plane block, and intraperitoneal local anesthetic injection methods with a control group to reduce postoperative pain after laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Results showed that peroperative local anesthetic administration methods were more effective in preventing pain than the control group, reducing the need for postoperative analgesics, and increasing patient satisfaction.

Summary: Preoperative lower back pain intensity is associated with the severity of postoperative pain after gynecologic laparoscopy. It can be used as a predictor for moderate-to-severe postoperative pain, with patients rated three or above experiencing more severe pain and requiring higher opioid use after surgery.

Summary: This retrospective cohort study investigated the relationship between opioid prescriptions post-discharge and patient-reported pain outcomes. Results showed that patients receiving lower doses of opioids did not report worse pain relief at postoperative day 30 compared to those receiving higher doses, suggesting that 40 MME/day is sufficient for patient satisfaction.

Summary: The study evaluated the feasibility and safety of providing immediate supervised mobilization starting 30 minutes post-surgery in patients who underwent colorectal surgery. Results showed that majority of patients reached their highest level of mobilization between the second and third hour postoperatively, with factors like pain, somnolence, hypotension affecting the mobility process. No serious adverse events occurred during the supervised mobilization.

Summary: Goats have been used as animal models in research, and the need for achieving safer anesthesia for research or surgical intervention is gaining much attention. This study aimed to evaluate the intraoperative effects and immediate postoperative pain control of a nalbuphine-ketamine regimen in goats. The results showed that the combination of nalbuphine and ketamine provided better induction of anesthesia and recovery compared to ketamine alone, and it also produced better postoperative pain control.

Summary: This systematic review with meta-analysis examined the effectiveness of interventions to improve guideline-recommended imaging referrals in low back pain. The study found low-certainty evidence that education interventions are unlikely to be effective, while organizational and policy-level interventions are more likely to be effective.

Summary: This pilot study aimed to assess the tolerability and efficacy of a single-dose of ketamine at 0.6mg/kg for pain relief after mastectomy with reconstruction surgery. The results indicate that the single-dose ketamine is well tolerated and may provide better pain control up to one week after surgery. However, further research with larger sample sizes is needed to fully understand the effect of postoperative single-dose ketamine on pain control in this population.

Summary: This study aimed to analyze the utility of hemodynamic, bedside ultrasound, and Doppler parameters for prediction of fluid responsiveness in infants and neonates in the immediate postoperative cardiac surgery period. Results showed that arterial systolic pressure variation, inferior vena cava distensibility index, and USCOM preload parameters failed to predict fluid responsiveness, while dynamic central venous pressure changes over several hours had modest predictability.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate if patients who received methocarbamol postoperatively had less severe pain and required smaller doses of opioids compared to those who did not receive methocarbamol. The results showed that patients who received methocarbamol had higher pain scores and opioid dose requirements during the first 48 hours postoperatively.
