Summary: This study describes a new species of anamorphic ascomycetous yeast, named Wickerhamomyces sinyiensis, which was isolated from soil and a mushroom in Taiwan. Molecular analysis identified this species as a member of the Wickerhamomyces clade. The yeast strains showed differences in nucleotide sequences and carbon/nitrogen assimilation patterns compared to related species. Therefore, this study proposes the classification of W. sinyiensis as a new species.

Summary: Six conspecific yeast strains were isolated from rotten wood and fungal fruiting body, which were collected in different locations in Hungary, Germany, and Taiwan. These strains are closely related to Diddensiella santjacobensis, but the differences in their ITS and gene sequences indicate that they may represent a new species, which is named Diddensiella parasantjacobensis.

Summary: Two strains of bipolar budding yeast were isolated from rotting wood samples in Xishuangbanna Tropical Rainforest in Yunnan Province, China. Through phenotypic characteristics and phylogenetic analysis, the strains were identified as a new species of the genus Hanseniaspora, named Hanseniaspora menglaensis f.a., sp. nov. This species differs from the closely related Hanseniaspora lindneri by genetic substitutions and physiological traits.

Summary: Three novel asexual ascomycetous yeast species, SMT1.3, SMT1.10, and SMT2.2, were isolated from the gut of a termite Odontotermes horni in Maharashtra, India. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that they belonged to the genus Nakazawaea, with N. siamensis as the closest relative. Significant genetic and biochemical differences were observed between the new species and N. siamensis. Therefore, a new species Nakazawaea odontotermitis f.a., sp. nov. is proposed.

Summary: A new yeast species, Zygotorulaspora dagestanica, was discovered in Dagestan, Russia, during an investigation of yeast communities associated with wild fruit shrubs in the Caucasus region. This new species was found to be basal to other species in the clade and closely related to Zygotorulaspora mrakii.

Summary: Eight apiculate strains isolated from Tibet, PR China, were identified as Hanseniaspora taiwanica and a novel species of Hanseniaspora based on sequence analysis. Among them, four strains represent a new species named Hanseniaspora terricola, while the other four strains belong to H. taiwanica with differences in ascospore morphology from the original description.

Summary: A new species of the yeast genus Blastobotrys was discovered in house dust, with similar species detected globally in various substrates. The new species, Blastobotrys davincii, was classified based on morphological, phylogenetic, and physiological characters. The preferred name for the new species is still under debate, but Blastobotrys is argued to be more suitable than Trichomonascus. A nomenclatural review and accepted species list for Blastobotrys/Trichomonascus clade were also provided.

Summary: Ecuador is a biodiverse country with a rich tradition of brewing corn-based beer using a wide range of Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeast. Through genetic and domestication processes, different aromas and flavors are produced during fermentation. Studying 94 yeast isolates, researchers identified 15 yeasts with six different RFLP profiles, showing significant differences in chemical and organoleptic characteristics during fermentation. Most of the isolates were found to be potentially useful in producing various beer styles.

Summary: The study demonstrated that nanocellulose spheroids are effective in adsorbing Cr VI from industrial liquid effluents. The most efficient adsorption conditions were found to be at pH 4 and 25 degrees Celsius, with removal percentages reaching over 90%. The adsorption kinetics showed equilibrium was reached within 20 to 30 minutes, and the adsorption isotherms had a high adjustment with Langmuir and Freundlich models.
