Summary: Efficient delivery of miR-122 to hepatocytes using a nanomedicine-based formulation has the potential to prevent and treat colorectal cancer liver metastasis. Mechanistically, it downregulates key genes involved in metastatic and cancer inflammation pathways, increases CD8(+)/CD4(+) T-cell ratio, and decreases immunosuppressive cell infiltration, making the liver more conducive to antitumor immune response.

Summary: Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the US, with resistance to therapeutics being a major factor in poor survival rates. However, a study has found that miR-129 modified with 5-FU can inhibit proliferation and induce apoptosis in NSCLC cell lines, even in those resistant to erlotinib or 5-FU. In animal experiments, 5-FU-miR-129 inhibited tumor growth and improved survival without toxic side effects.

Summary: This study investigated the bystander effect of hypoxia on radiation-induced rectal injury. The results showed that secreted factors from hypoxic HIEC cells promoted apoptosis in normoxic HIEC cells. Further analysis revealed that miR-122-5p played a critical role in radiation-induced rectal injury. This study provides potential therapeutic targets for the treatment of radiation-induced rectal injury.

Summary: The study evaluated the cytotoxic, genotoxic, apoptotic, oxidant and antioxidant effects of thymol on HepG2 cell line. Thymol showed cytotoxic and genotoxic effects on HepG2 cells, while having no lethal effect on healthy cells. It also decreased oxidative stress and induced apoptosis in HepG2 cells, without altering the gene expressions associated with apoptosis. The results suggest the potential of thymol in the treatment of liver cancer.

Summary: The study revealed that UCA1 regulates SOX2 expression by sponging miR-122-5p, affecting the functions of CC stem cells, while CaSki-Exo promotes the invasion and migration of CC stem cells. Silencing UCA1 or up-regulating miR-122-5p reduced the invasion and migration abilities of CC stem cells.

Summary: Hepatocarcinoma is a common digestive system tumor worldwide with no effective treatment. Naringenin, isolated from citrus fruits, has shown anticancer effects. This study investigated the molecular mechanisms and oxidative stress implications of naringenin-induced cytotoxicity in HepG2 cells. Naringenin induced apoptosis in HepG2 cells through multiple pathways, enhanced cytotoxic effects, triggered reactive oxygen species, inhibited JAK-2/STAT-3 signaling pathways, and activated caspase-3. These findings suggest that naringenin could be a promising candidate for cancer therapy.

Summary: In this study, it was found that rapeseed peptide can inhibit the proliferation of HepG2 cells and induce cell apoptosis through the mitochondrial pathway. The rapeseed peptide activates the P53 signaling pathway and inhibits MDM2, a negative regulator of P53, promoting the activation of P53.

Summary: This study demonstrates the utilization of Corn as a split aptamer system combined with RNA-initiated fluorescence complementation (RIFC) for monitoring RNA self-assembly and sensing microRNA. The split aptamers show good photostability and can deliver a light-up fluorescent response to miR-21 in mammalian cells. This method has potential for real-time visualization and mechanistic analysis of nucleic acids.

Summary: The role of exogenous miRNAs in renal fibrosis was investigated using a mouse model. miR-122-5p was found to be downregulated in the kidneys of mice with renal fibrosis. Overexpression of miR-122-5p promoted fibrosis, while inhibition of miR-122-5p suppressed fibrosis. miR-122-5p regulated the expression of fibrosis-related mRNAs, including pro-fibrotic TGFBR2 and anti-fibrotic FOXO3.
