Summary: Two thermophilic bacterial strains, FJAT-47801(T) and FJAT-47835, were isolated from the sediment collected from Zhangjiang Estuary Mangrove National Nature Reserve in Fujian Province, China. These strains belong to the genus Bacillus and show high similarity to Bacillus oleivorans. Based on their unique characteristics and phylogenetic analysis, a new species, Bacillus litorisediminis sp. nov., is proposed for strain FJAT-47801(T). The importance of this discovery lies in expanding our knowledge of microbial diversity and understanding the ecological roles of thermophilic bacteria in mangrove ecosystems.

Summary: The newly isolated cellulolytic xylanolytic bacteria strain DA-C8 shows efficient xylan degradation within 4 days under anaerobic conditions. Phylogenetic analysis indicates that DA-C8 belongs to Paenibacillus. It exhibits high expression of xylan and cellulose degradation genes under anaerobic conditions but is repressed under aerobic conditions.

Summary: A novel marine bacterium, Vallitalea longa sp. nov., strain SH18-1T, was isolated from sediment near Sado Island in Japan. This strain is anaerobic, Gram-stain-negative, rod-shaped, and motile. It has a wide temperature, salt concentration, and pH range for growth. Phylogenetic analysis shows its closest related species to be Vallitalea guaymasensis Ra1766G1T. The results indicate that strain SH18-1T represents a new species of the genus Vallitalea.

Summary: A thermophilic bacterium, strain MDTJ8, was isolated from an anaerobic digestor and shown to produce n-caproate from carbohydrates at high temperatures. Genomic analysis revealed the presence of genes responsible for chain elongation and energy conservation in MDTJ8, opening up possibilities for thermophilic bioprocesses targeting anaerobic digestion. The ability of MDTJ8 to convert various carbohydrates to n-caproate suggests its potential applications in value-added chemical production.

Summary: Two anaerobic, mesophilic bacteria SF3(T) and ASD5510 were isolated from human feces in different countries. Strain SF3(T) showed high sequence similarity with strain ASD5510 and a similar strain Aminipila butyrica DSM 103574(T) based on 16S rRNA gene analysis. Strain SF3(T) exhibited a Gram-stain-positive morphology and grew optimally under specific conditions. Based on phenotypic, phylogenetic, and phylogenomic evidence, strain SF3(T) represents a novel species in a novel genus named Hominibacterium faecale gen. nov., sp. nov.

Summary: Two anaerobic bacterial isolates, ACSDCET and ACSTCE, capable of respiring tetrachloroethene (PCE), were characterized. These strains showed unique morphological and physiological characteristics, including optimum growth conditions, electron donors, and acceptors. Genomic analysis further confirmed the distinction of these strains from other Sulfurospirillum species, proposing a new species named Sulfurospirillum diekertiae sp. nov. This study provides important insights into the diversity and functionalities of PCE-respiring bacteria.
