The taxonomic position of an actinomycete isolated from a lead-polluted soil in Gansu province, north-west China, was determined by using a polyphasic approach. Chemical and morphological properties of the isolate, designated strain CCNWHX 13-160(T), were similar to those of streptomycetes. Analysis of the almost complete 16S rRNA gene sequence placed strain CCNWHX 13-160(T) in the genus Streptomyces where it formed a distinct phyletic line with recognized Streptomyces species. The strain was most similar to Streptomyces pseudo venezuelae NBRC 12904(T) (98.9%) and Streptomyces resistomycificus NBRC 12814(T) (98.8%). Furthermore, DNA-DNA hybridization studies between the novel isolate and these two strains showed relatedness values of 49.7 +/- 0.8 and 43.2 +/- 1.1%, respectively. It is proposed that strain CCNWHX 13-160(T) (=ACCC 41207(T) =HAMBI 2991(T)) be classified as the type strain of a novel species in the genus Streptomyces, Streptomyces plumbiresistens sp. nov. The MIC of Pb2+ for growth of strain CCNWHX 13-160(T) was 4.0 mM.

Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi Enhanced Drought Resistance of Populus cathayana by Regulating the 14-3-3 Family Protein Genes

Yanyan Han, Xiao Lou, Wenrui Zhang, Tingying Xu, Ming Tang

Summary: Thirteen 14-3-3 protein genes were expressed in the symbiosis between Populus cathayana and AMF. Among them, the expression of PcGRF10 and PcGRF11 induced by AMF was significantly positively correlated with antioxidant and osmotic regulation. This provides new insights into the impact of AMF symbiosis on stress through 14-3-3 proteins.

Changes in Rhizosphere Soil Fungal Communities of Pinus tabuliformis Plantations at Different Development Stages on the Loess Plateau

Jiaxing Wang, Jing Gao, Haoqiang Zhang, Ming Tang

Summary: The soil fungal community plays a crucial role in the maintenance and sustainable development of forest ecosystems. This study analyzed soil environmental changes and the composition of the soil fungal community at different stand ages in Pinus tabuliformis plantations. The results showed that the content of available phosphorus (AP) in the soil significantly affected the community composition of soil fungi and influenced the degradation of the plantations.

Effect of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi and phosphorus on drought-induced oxidative stress and 14-3-3 proteins gene expression of Populus cathayana

Yanyan Han, Wenrui Zhang, Tingying Xu, Ming Tang

Summary: The application of AM fungi and phosphorus can improve plant growth under drought stress by upregulating the antioxidant system and osmotic accumulation. Inoculation of AM fungi significantly increased P content and enzyme activities in plants. AM fungi also enhanced the antioxidant activities under drought condition. 14-3-3 genes play a crucial role in antioxidant system, osmotic regulation, and P metabolism.

Identification and functional characterization of the sulfakinin and sulfakinin receptor in the Chinese white pine beetle Dendroctonus armandi

Bin Liu, Danyang Fu, Hang Ning, Ming Tang, Hui Chen

Summary: The sulfakinin (SK) signaling pathway plays a positive and significant role in feeding regulation in the Chinese white pine beetle, Dendroctonus armandi. The expression levels of SK and SKR genes vary between male and female adults, as well as different developmental stages, tissues, and starvation/re-feeding states. Targeting the SK pathway could provide a potential molecular target for pest control.

How does tree mortality caused by bark beetle (Trypophloeus klimeschi) outbreaks affect changes in soil fungal communities?

Jiaxing Wang, Jing Gao, Haoqiang Zhang, Ming Tang, Hui Chen

Summary: In recent years, an outbreak of bark beetles in China has caused significant mortality of a specific type of poplar tree, leading to changes in soil properties and fungal communities. The findings suggest that these disturbances will have important implications for the future restoration of forest ecology in the area.

Knockdown of CYP6CR2 and CYP6DE5 reduces tolerance to host plant allelochemicals in the Chinese white pine beetle Dendroctonus armandi

Bin Liu, Danyang Fu, Hang Ning, Ming Tang, Hui Chen

Summary: This study sequenced and characterized two CYP6 genes from Chinese white pine beetle and revealed their expression characteristics and functions. The expression of these genes varied significantly in different developmental stages and tissues, and was significantly induced after feeding on pine phloem or exposure to terpenoids. Silencing these genes increased sensitivity to terpenoids and led to a significant increase in adult mortality.
