A Gram-positive, non-spore-forming, rod-shaped, motile bacterium, designated strain DCY22(T), was isolated from soil of a ginseng field in South Korea and characterized in order to determine its taxonomic position. 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis revealed that strain DCY22(T) belonged within the family Sanguibacteraceae, and highest levels of sequence similarity were found with Sanguibacter marinus 1-19(T) (96.8%), Sanguibacter suarezii ST-26(T) (96.0%), Sanguibacter inulinus ST-50(T) (95.9%), Sanguibacter keddieii ST-74(T) (95.5%), Terrabacter terrae PPLBT (94.0%) and Terrabacter tumescens DSM 20308(T) (93.8%). Chemotaxonomic investigations revealed that strain DCY22(T) possessed menaquinone MK-9, a common feature of members of the genus Sanguibacter. Predominant fatty acids were unknown ECL 13.961 (45.81 %), 17: 0 anteiso (23.46 %), 18: 0 iso (115.42 %) and unknown ECL 14.966 (8.70%). The results of physiological and biochemical tests clearly demonstrated that strain DCY22T represents a novel species of the genus Sanguibacter, for which the name Sanguibacter soli sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is DCY22(T) (=KCTC 13155(T)=JCM 14841(T)).

Crataegus laevigata Suppresses LPS-Induced Oxidative Stress during Inflammatory Response in Human Keratinocytes by Regulating the MAPKs/AP-1, NFκB, and NFAT Signaling Pathways

Quynh T. N. Nguyen, Minzhe Fang, Mengyang Zhang, Nhung Quynh Do, Minseon Kim, Sheng Dao Zheng, Eunson Hwang, Tae Hoo Yi

Summary: Crataegus laevigata berry extract (CLE) with 70% ethanol has anti-oxidative stress and anti-inflammatory effects on LPS-stimulated keratinocytes, suppressing ROS production, reducing overexpression of inflammatory signaling molecules, and lowering levels of pro-inflammatory chemokines and interleukins. These results suggest that CLE could be a potential alternative agent for inflammatory treatment.

Effects of phenylethanol glycosides from Orobanche cernua Loefling on UVB-Induced skin photodamage: a comparative study

Wei Gao, Shengdao Zheng, Eunson Hwang, Tae-hoo Yi, Yu-shuai Wang

Summary: The study revealed that acteoside, isoacteoside, and 2 '-acetylacteoside in Orobanche cernua Loefling are effective in protecting against UV radiation-induced skin damage by reducing MMP-1 expression, increasing type I procollagen synthesis, and inhibiting ROS and TARC secretion. Crenatoside, however, did not show any significant effect on the regulation of these signal cascades.

The Immune-Enhancing Properties of Hwanglyeonhaedok-Tang-Mediated Biosynthesized Gold Nanoparticles in Macrophages and Splenocytes

Xiao-Jie Mi, Xing Yue Xu, Han Sol Choi, Hoon Kim, Ik Hyun Cho, Tae-Hoo Yi, Yeon-Ju Kim

Summary: This study developed novel gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) named HHT-AuNPs utilizing the herbal formula Hwanglyeonhaedok-tang (HHT) and demonstrated their immunostimulatory effects on both innate and adaptive immune systems. The HHT-AuNPs significantly increased the production of immune-related cytokines by activating the MAPK and NF-Kappa B signaling pathways in cells. These findings provide a foundation for the application of traditional Chinese medicinal formulae in the field of nanomedicine.
