Summary: This paper introduces an infinite-period model to address the subcontracting and single-item lot-sizing problem with constant capacities, demonstrating the model's practicality by driving the firm's production schedule and subcontractor's supply schedule, introducing the concept of the "shadow period" to determine optimal marginal supply costs, and ultimately proving the success of the model through the concept of the effective period.

Summary: This paper addresses a multi-level lot-sizing and job shop scheduling problem with lot-streaming. A novel big-bucket time formulation has been developed to incorporate lot-streaming considering sequence-dependent setup times and capacitated machines. Two efficient heuristics, fix-and-relax algorithm and a decomposition heuristic using MIP and CP, have been developed for solving larger-size problems. The computational results show the promising results of the proposed model and heuristics.

Summary: In this paper, a scheduling algorithm that combines a metaheuristic and a list algorithm is proposed and tested. Experimental results show that this algorithm outperforms the scheduling policy conducted in a case-study company. The method is not only able to solve large real-world problems efficiently, but also has a flexible structure that can be easily adapted to various planning and scheduling problems.

Summary: The Capacitated Lot-Sizing Problem (CLSP) and its variants are important optimization problems. This paper introduces perturbation strategies and a new procedure to improve solution quality. Combinations of the self-adaptive heuristics with Tabu search and lot elimination heuristics have been proven effective.

Summary: In order to maintain and enhance competitiveness, achieving higher levels of flexibility in manufacturing systems has become necessary. This study investigates the integrated lot-sizing and scheduling problem under workforce constraints, using a new generation of production machine called Reconfigurable Machine Tool (RMT). A novel Mixed-Integer Linear Programming (MILP) model is formulated, and an efficient Decomposition Heuristic (DH) empowered by a tailored feasibility cut is devised to address the problem's high complexity.

Summary: In this study, an improved algorithm for the two-level lot-sizing problem with outbound shipment is proposed. By exploiting the synchronization relationship of inbound replenishment with outbound dispatch, an efficient dynamic programming algorithm is provided. Incorporating the structure of the DP with the geometric technique has led to the design of an O(T-3) algorithm, improving upon the previous O(T-4) algorithm.

Summary: This paper analyzes the negative impact of the end-of-horizon effect on solving the capacitated multi-item lot-sizing problem with setup costs and times on a rolling horizon. It proposes a new optimization problem that is less affected by the end-of-horizon effect and introduces a generation scheme to create new instances for analysis. Computational experiments are conducted to compare solutions and evaluate the relevance of the new instances on a rolling horizon.

Summary: In this paper, the capacitated three-level lot-sizing and replenishment problem with a distribution structure (3LSPD-C) is studied. A new hybrid mixed integer programming (MIP) heuristic is proposed, and a generalized version of the problem (G3LSPD-C) is introduced. Computational experiments demonstrate that the new hybrid heuristic can achieve comparable or superior solution quality within a specific time limit compared to the existing methods. The economic impacts of storage capacities are also investigated.

Summary: The standard blending problem involves combining components to meet demand and minimize costs, with flexibility in component proportions. Extending the timeframe complicates the problem, requiring consideration of multiple time periods and inventory management. Integrated lot sizing and blending problem deals with decisions on production and procurement over an extended horizon, comparing the value of integration against other approaches like lot-for-lot and just-in-time models.

Summary: To meet sustainable energy demand, this study proposes an integrated method that utilizes statistical data, artificial intelligence, and geographic information systems to forecast the biomass-based energy potential in Turkey. The method was applied to the Acipayam district in Denizli, and it was found that cultivating rapeseed plants on non-utilized arable land and using its wastes yielded the highest energy potential.

Summary: This study proposes an integrated approach for the design of biomass supply chain network using artificial intelligence, geographic information systems, multi criteria decision making and mathematical modelling. The methodology was applied to a real case in Denizli, Turkey, and it was found that nine conversion facilities could be opened with 2000 kWh capacity each, with a significant portion of net income coming from electricity sales. Sensitivity analysis showed that fertilizer sales price and discount rate were the most dominant factors affecting net present value.

Summary: In today's competitive world, companies need creative, well-educated and self-confident human resources more than ever to differentiate themselves with continuous improvement. Hiring the right person to the right job plays a significant role on firm growth. This paper proposes a systematic approach to Personnel Selection Problem (PSP) of a textile company in Turkey by considering various performance requirements and criteria, using fuzzy Decision-Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL), fuzzy Quality Function Deployment (QFD) and fuzzy Grey Relationship Analysis (GRA) methods. The results show that the proposed method can effectively deal with PSP and help the company establish a systematic and unbiased approach to the problem.
