Summary: This study investigates the diversity and structure of microbial communities in saliva samples from 5-year-old children with and without dental caries. The results show that there were no significant differences in microbial abundance and diversity between the high caries and no caries groups. However, the relative abundances of certain bacterial taxa differed between the two groups. The findings of this study provide insights into the microbiological etiology of dental caries in young children and could potentially lead to new methods for prevention and treatment.

Summary: This study in Tanzania examined the prevalence of Early Childhood Caries (ECC), risk factors, and nutritional status among 3-5-year-old children. The results showed a significant negative relationship between ECC and children's anthropometric measures, and a positive relationship with sugar exposure and poor oral hygiene. Controlling risk factors could help reduce the occurrence of ECC and promote the health of well-nourished children.

Summary: This study evaluates the decayed, missing filled teeth (DMFT) scores of permanent first molars (PFMs) in the early post-eruptive stage, within the scope of the United Nations Agenda for 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. The results show that the prevalence of caries in PFMs of children aged 7-10 years is 15.9% and the mean DMFT is 0.79 +/- 1.39, indicating that PFMs may develop carious lesions and even be lost within three years in the early post-eruptive stage.

Summary: The caries prevalence among 3-5-year-old children in Guizhou Province is high, with severe caries status. Factors such as parents' education level, brushing frequency, and oral health evaluation impact the risk of dental caries in children. Improving public awareness and managing children's oral health habits are essential for the prevention and treatment of caries.

Summary: The aim of this study was to assess the associations between PART1 rs27565 and DEFB1 rs11362 polymorphisms and dental caries prevalence in twelve-year-old children in Nandan County, Guangxi, China. The results showed that individuals carrying the PART1 rs27565 C allele and the DEFB1 rs11362 T allele had a higher risk of caries. Moreover, individuals with the PART1 rs27565 TC or CC genotype and the DEFB1 rs11362 CT or TT genotype who consumed sugary foods more than once a week had an increased probability of having caries.

Summary: There are very few epidemiologic studies on caries disease in 6-7 year old children living in Sicily. This study aims to estimate the prevalence of caries in this population and the prevalence of affected first permanent molars (FPMs). The study found that socio-economic factors, unhealthy behaviors, and social deprivation are associated with an increased risk of moderate and extensive caries in 6-7 year old schoolchildren.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the rate of caries increment among 11-12-year-old Pakistani children over 18 months and establish an appropriate dental recall interval based on their caries risk. Findings showed that the recommended recall interval is 18 months for children with low and medium caries risk, and 6 months for those with high caries risk. For non-cavitated and cavitated lesions, the recommended recall interval is 6 months for all risk categories.

Summary: The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of an Oral Care Program on home care nurses' attitudes and knowledge, as well as on the oral health of older people. The program significantly improved the oral health of older people, particularly those with full dentures. It also improved the knowledge and attitude of home care nurses, fitting well with their daily work routines. Individual-centered care plans for older people, education of home care nurses, and the expertise of dental hygienists added value to home care nursing.
