Summary: An artificial intelligence model was developed and trained to diagnose TMJOA from OPG images, showing similar diagnostic performance to an OMFR expert. Adjusting the classification of OA images improved the model's performance, making it a potential substitute for experts in primary diagnosis in most clinics.

Summary: This study conducted a meta-analysis of the literature and found a correlation between posture and temporomandibular disorders (TMDs). Nerve pathways are likely to regulate both body posture and mandibular posture. Further clinical studies are needed to confirm this hypothesis and provide conclusive interpretations.

Summary: This study investigated the immune-related pathophysiology of temporomandibular joint osteoarthritis in young females by analyzing the transcriptional profiles of peripheral blood mononuclear cells. RNA sequencing revealed differences in gene expression related to immune function, potentially reflecting inflammation, autoimmunity, and abnormal T cell functions in young females with TMJ OA.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the agreement between DC/TMD diagnoses and MRI diagnoses in patients with TMD. The results showed that the DC/TMD clinical examination performed well in all types of disc displacement but is less reliable than MRI in detecting the presence of degenerative disc diseases and subluxation.

Summary: This study proposes a novel diagnostic method for temporomandibular joint hypermobility (TMJH) based on digital time-frequency analysis of sounds and reveals characteristic time-frequency features in acoustic signals for detecting TMJH. The research also confirms the rarity of TMJH as a disorder, but its prevalence remains significant at around 4%.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the agreement between clinical diagnosis based on RDC/TMD and high-field MRI findings of TMJs in asymptomatic females. The findings showed low agreement between clinical examination and MRI results in anterior dislocation with reduction, as well as in osteoarthritic changes. However, RDC/TMD had a low rate of false positive diagnoses in asymptomatic patients and remains a sensible method for clinical diagnosis and avoiding overtreatment.

Summary: This study found that the prevalence of TMD was higher in women than men in Korea, with women showing more myogenous pain, subjective insomnia, and pain intensity. Gender was related to the number of positive muscle palpation and maximum mouth opening, while pain intensity was associated with the number of systemic comorbidities.

Summary: This study aimed to develop a multidimensional nomogram based on cephalograms to screen degenerative temporomandibular joint diseases (DJDs). The study found that Ceph scores and clinical features were effective predictors of DJD. This research provides a new method for screening DJD in dental practice.

Summary: This cross-sectional study revealed significant associations between psychological well-being and temporomandibular disorder (TMD) symptoms, showing that environmental mastery can decrease the likelihood of pain-related and intra-articular TMD symptoms, while overall psychological distress and anxiety predicted the presence of pain-related and intra-articular/combined TMD symptoms.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the effect and mechanism of chondrocyte apoptosis on the chemotaxis of osteoclast precursors (OCPs) during bone destruction. The results showed that apoptosis of chondrocytes enhanced the chemotaxis of OCPs towards osteoclast precursors through upregulation of the p38-CX3CL1 axis, thereby promoting the activation of local osteoclasts.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the diagnosis of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) involvement in children with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) through patient history and clinical examination. The results suggest that self-reported TMJ symptoms and smaller MUO with pain may indicate TMJ involvement, although radiographic examinations are necessary for confirmation. The study indicates that the RDC/TMD protocol may be a blunt tool for targeting TMJ involvement in JIA.

Summary: The study found that patients with chronic pain-related TMD had higher levels of psychological distress and poorer sleep quality, while those with chronic intra-articular TMD did not. Stress and depression increased the likelihood of developing chronic pain-related TMD.

Summary: The study found a 36.99% prevalence of TMD among dental students in Saudi Arabia, with pain in the jaw, temple, and peri-auricular area being the most common symptoms. Female, married, and clinical-level students were significantly more at risk of TMD. Anxiety and parafunctional behaviors were shown to increase the risk of developing TMD.

Summary: This article presents two cases of patients who experienced side effects after undergoing masseteric nerve neurectomy with radiofrequency for temporomandibular disorders. The first patient had post-procedural inflammation with hemorrhage in the masseter muscles, while the second patient had degenerative joint disease of both condyles. Scientific evidence for this treatment approach is lacking, with conservative treatment remaining the preferred option for temporomandibular disorders.
