Summary: This study evaluated the relationship between two polymorphisms (rs7412 and rs429358) of the ApoE gene and the development of laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC). The findings suggest that the ApoE epsilon 2/epsilon 4 and epsilon 3/epsilon 4 genotypes have a protective role in LSCC development, while the ApoE epsilon 3/epsilon 3 genotype may increase the risk of LSCC development.

Summary: This study reveals that circRNA hsa_circ_0002348 is significantly increased in preeclampsia placentas and correlates with the severity of clinical manifestations. It functions as an endogenous sponge for miR-126-3p to upregulate BAK1 expression, thereby regulating trophoblast proliferation and apoptosis. Hsa_circ_0002348 may serve as a potential therapeutic target for preeclampsia.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the global miRNA expression kinetics during the progression of periodontitis in mice infected with T. denticola. The results showed that T. denticola infection led to bacterial colonization and increased alveolar bone resorption. A total of 70 miRNAs with differential expression were identified, and miR-486, miR-126-3p, and miR-126-5p were found to be potential invasive biomarkers of T. denticola in periodontal disease.

Summary: Exosomes carrying small non-coding RNA, particularly miR-16, miR-146a, miR-192, and miR-221, appear to be promising diagnostic and prognostic markers for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and liver cirrhosis patients. MiR-146a showed potential as a diagnostic marker for distinguishing HCC patients from liver cirrhosis patients, while miR-192 independently correlated with overall survival in HCC patients.

Summary: This study found that high levels of circulating miR-21 and miR-29a were significantly associated with an increased risk of total death, cancer death, and CVD death, while individuals with low levels of circulating miR-126 were more likely to experience total death. This suggests that circulating miRNAs may serve as potential biomarkers for early detection of high-risk individuals.

Summary: Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is a common type of head and neck cancer in Asia. This study found that angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs) may improve the survival rates of NPC patients by increasing 5-year overall survival and disease-specific survival rates. The anticancer effects of ARBs in NPC were attributed to inducing apoptosis, inhibiting cell proliferation, and suppressing angiogenesis through the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway.

Summary: The study demonstrates that miR-1290 suppresses MAF expression in LSCC, revealing the underlying interaction between the two. Immunohistochemistry staining showed loss of nuclear MAF expression in 58% of LSCC samples. Through data analysis, it was determined that loss-of-function mutations, promoter region DNA methylation or CNV are not responsible for MAF loss in LSCC.

Summary: IMP3 expression is higher in malignant laryngeal lesions compared to dysplasia and benign lesions, serving as a useful marker to differentiate between invasive and noninvasive lesions. Higher IMP3 expression is associated with worse clinical outcomes in patients with squamous cell carcinoma of the larynx.

Summary: This study confirmed the carcinogenic effect of circ_0058106 in promoting tumorigenesis, metastasis, invasion, and EMT process of HSCC cells by regulating the Wnt2b/β-catenin/c-Myc pathway through sponging miR-185-3p, suggesting circ_0058106 may be a new therapeutic target and prognostic marker for HSCC.

Summary: In this study, differential miRNA expression in laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC) between Black and White patients was examined. MiR-9-5p was found to be significantly lower in Black LSCC patients. The study showed that increasing miR-9-5p inhibited migration, proliferation, and increased cisplatin sensitivity in Black LSCC cells, while reducing miR-9-5p had the opposite effect in White LSCC cells. These findings suggest a crucial role of miR-9-5p in LSCC tumorigenesis and chemoresistance.

Summary: circ_0003528 is overexpressed in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and knockdown of circ_0003528 suppresses tumor aggressiveness and growth. miR-212-3p functions through interaction with circ_0003528 and XIAP. Knockdown of circ_0003528 may be a potential therapeutic strategy for HCC treatment.
