Summary: This study assesses the association between functional fitness and health-related quality of life in older adults with metabolic syndrome. The results show that higher functional fitness scores are positively associated with lower physical function, better general health, and better physical component of health-related quality of life. Higher levels of physical activity are also positively associated with functional fitness and physical component of health-related quality of life.

Summary: This study evaluated the prevalence rate of metabolic syndrome in cancer survivors and examined the correlation between health-related quality of life and influencing factors. It was found that cancer survivors with metabolic syndrome had a lower health-related quality of life than those without it. Stress management, walking, and muscle-building workouts were found to have positive effects on reducing stress and improving quality of life.

Summary: This longitudinal study examined temperamental and personality traits as moderators of lifestyle changes in patients with metabolic syndrome. Patients with higher Neuroticism, Perseveration, and Emotional Reactivity showed improvements in emotional quality of life and health practices, with these traits fostering positive change. Motivational counseling was effective in general, but especially beneficial for patients with certain temperamental and personality trait profiles.

Summary: This study found that frailty in MetS is associated with depression, polypharmacy, greater functional impairment, poorer QoL and perceived health. Frailty screening and personalized management is crucial in MetS as frailty may be a mediator for negative outcomes in MetS, and frailty may be reversible.

Summary: This study aimed to identify the major determinants of quality of life (QoL) in patients undergoing cancer treatment and treatment-naive patients. The study found that age, resting heart rate, hand grip strength, cachexia, and dyspnoea were independently predictive of reduced QoL.

Summary: Lifestyle changes, including nutrition and physical activity counseling, can improve exercise capacity, body mass index, and severity of metabolic syndrome (MetS). Changes in body mass index have an impact on three components of MetS, while changes in exercise capacity are associated with one component of MetS as well as improvements in anxiety severity, aspects of quality of life, and work ability. Dietary-induced weight loss may be more successful in improving MetS risk factors, while physical activity promotion may be preferred for enhancing quality of life and mental health.

Summary: The study found that basal metabolic rate decreases linearly with age while standard metabolic rate increases linearly with age. The absolute standardized change with age was faster for basal metabolic rate compared to standard metabolic rate, and the within-individual correlation of age related change was negligible. Sex did not show specific differences in metabolic rate or metabolic ageing rate.

Summary: Metabolic syndrome is a global epidemic with decreasing onset age, but its prevalence can be reduced through lifestyle modifications. This study examined the differences in sleep disturbance, physical activity, and health-related quality of life associated with depressive symptoms in patients with metabolic syndrome aged ≥ 40 years. The results showed that health-related quality of life was significantly lower in patients with depression than in those without depression. Early intervention programs are necessary to address this issue.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of sleep quality, premenstrual syndrome (PMS), and dietary consumption on metabolic syndrome (MetS)-related variables. The results show that women experiencing PMS have lower sleep quality, higher levels of depression and anxiety. Among these women, poor sleep quality is associated with higher waist circumference and diastolic blood pressure. Additionally, poor sleepers among women with PMS consume more alcoholic drinks. These findings suggest that sleep quality and dietary habits may modify the association between MetS-related variables and PMS in Korean women.

Summary: This study investigated the prevalence of non-responders in morbidly obese women after 20 weeks of concurrent training, and divided them into high and low risk groups based on the number of metabolic syndrome risk factors. The results showed that patients with a higher number of risk factors had a higher prevalence of non-responders in terms of blood glucose, blood pressure, and blood lipids.

Summary: This study evaluated the composition, protein profile, and plasmin activity of human milk from mothers who delivered infants at different gestational ages. Results showed that protein content and levels of some individual proteins were significantly affected by gestational age at birth and duration of lactation, with differences in proteolytic activity in milk samples. Compositional differences between term and pre-term infant milk were most significant in terms of protein profile.
