Summary: The clinical features and outcomes of patients with BRLM were investigated in this nationwide cohort study. The risk of progression from HSV-2 meningitis to BRLM was determined, and the differences in clinical features and post-discharge outcomes between BRLM and single-episode HSV-2 meningitis were analyzed. Patients with multiple previous episodes of meningitis were found to be at higher risk of recurrence.

Summary: Prompt lumbar puncture should be conducted for patients suspected to have Mollaret's meningitis to facilitate diagnosis, and the diagnosis of Mollaret's meningitis should be reserved for noninfectious cases, allowing the deferment of empiric antiviral therapy for HSV encephalitis with the expectation of complete recovery.

Summary: Mollaret's meningitis is a recurrent benign lymphocytic meningitis, usually associated with ear or sinus infection. Blood tests show leukocytosis with neutrophilia, while cerebrospinal fluid analysis reveals increased cell count with lymphocyte predominance.

Summary: Aseptic viral meningitis, mainly caused by herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2), is the most common form of meningitis in the United States. This case study presents an immunosuppressed 35-year-old female with untreated aseptic meningitis due to HSV-2, following a recent diagnosis of genital herpes with reported medication side effects.

Summary: The treatment of recurrent glioma is challenging due to its molecular heterogeneity and resistance to commonly used treatments. Oncolytic viruses, which selectively replicate within tumor cells and stimulate the immune system, have emerged as a promising therapeutic option. Genetic modifications have been important in optimizing the efficacy of oncolytic herpes simplex virus and oncolytic adenovirus for recurrent gliomas. This review article summarizes these genetic modifications and aims to identify strategies to enhance the therapeutic benefits of oncolytic viruses.

Summary: The study identified upregulated expression of four miRNAs in patients with severe and/or recurrent HSV infection, which, when inhibited, affected NK cell antiviral response. Furthermore, these miRNAs were found to regulate genes involved in antiviral response pathways and impact NK cell intracellular protein expression.

Summary: Encephalitis and meningitis are severe infections of the central nervous system with high morbidity and mortality rates. A study conducted in Kazakhstan found that enterovirus and herpes simplex virus were the most common pathogens, with lower incidence rates of bacterial etiology such as Neisseria meningitidis in the region. The incorporation of PCR testing improved the accuracy of pathogen identification, ensured accurate incidence rates, and reduced unnecessary antibiotic treatments.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of recurrent HSV-1 infection on neuronal aging, revealing a significant increase in H4K16ac, Sin3, and HDAC1 levels, which are related to aging markers. There was a significant decrease in H3K56ac specifically linked to viral reactivation, and a complex modulation of HIRA expression and localization in HSV-1 infected mouse brains, suggesting a specific role of this protein in viral latency and reactivation.

Summary: Amenamevir may not be effective enough in treating central nervous system infections. We report a case of a 91-year-old Japanese man who developed aseptic meningitis while being treated with amenamevir for herpes zoster. Cases of CNS infection have been observed in patients receiving amenamevir treatment, often accompanied by skin rashes near the trigeminal region.

Summary: This study investigates the clinical presentation and prognostic factors of HSV-2 meningitis using a database from departments of infectious diseases in Denmark from 2015 to 2020. The results show that meningitis is common in younger women and unfavorable outcome at discharge is common, but it is not associated with sex, age, immunocompromise, or cerebrospinal fluid leukocyte count.
