Importance of N-Glycosylation on CD147 for Its Biological Functions

Glycosylation of glycoproteins is one of many molecular changes that accompany malignant transformation. Post-translational modifications of proteins are closely associated with the adhesion, invasion, and metastasis of tumor cells. CD147, a tumor-associated antigen that is highly expressed on the cell surface of various tumors, is a potential target for cancer diagnosis and therapy. A significant biochemical property of CD147 is its high level of glycosylation. Studies on the structure and function of CD147 glycosylation provide valuable clues to the development of targeted therapies for cancer. Here, we review current understanding of the glycosylation characteristics of CD147 and the glycosyltransferases involved in the biosynthesis of CD147 N-glycans. Finally, we discuss proteins regulating CD147 glycosylation and the biological functions of CD147 glycosylation.

Metabolic checkpoints and novel approaches for immunotherapy against cancer

Summary: Immunotherapy has achieved significant success in treating cancer, but resistance to this treatment often occurs due to the complex metabolic networks in the tumor microenvironment. Metabolic checkpoints play a crucial role in regulating T cell development, differentiation, and function, as well as coordinating metabolic competition between tumor cells and infiltrating T cells. Thus, targeting metabolic checkpoints may enhance the efficacy of immunotherapy.

Contralateral C7 nerve transfer in the treatment of upper-extremity paralysis: a review of anatomical basis, surgical approaches, and neurobiological mechanisms

Summary: The last three decades have seen significant advancements in the use of contralateral C7 nerve transfer in the treatment of upper-extremity paralysis. Surgical techniques have evolved to shorten regeneration distance and achieve direct neurorrhaphy, while research has also explored the role of the brain in functional improvement after CC7 transfer. This review summarizes recent developments in CC7 transfer for both peripheral and central causes of upper-extremity paralysis and discusses the potential of motor cortex stimulation as a rehabilitation treatment.

Summary: Information about COVID-19 patients with pre-existing COPD is limited. This study aimed to describe the clinical course and outcomes of COVID-19 patients with COPD. The study found that patients with COPD were more likely to experience dyspnea, respiratory failure, and poor clinical outcomes compared to age- and sex-matched patients without COPD. However, laboratory tests did not show more severe infection or inflammation in COPD patients.

Targeted therapy based on ubiquitin-specific proteases, signalling pathways and E3 ligases in non-small-cell lung cancer

Summary: Lung cancer is a common malignant tumor with a high mortality rate worldwide, especially non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Current treatment methods, such as radiotherapy, chemotherapy, targeted therapy, and surgery, often face challenges due to drug resistance and tumor invasion or metastasis. The ubiquitin-proteasome pathway (UPP) plays a critical role in tumor occurrence and development. Ubiquitin-specific proteases (USPs), as regulators of UPP, have the potential to be targeted for the treatment of NSCLC. This review focuses on the role of USPs in NSCLC and the potential of targeted drugs, PROTACs, and small-molecule inhibitors.
