Summary: This study reports a new class of small-molecule CHIKV inhibitors, oxindole-labdanes, which can effectively block the replication of CHIKV with good selectivity. Compound (E)-42 shows high antiviral activity and minimal cytotoxicity to host cells, demonstrating both prophylactic and therapeutic effects. This finding opens up a new avenue for the development of antiviral drugs against CHIKV infection.

Summary: A method was reported to fabricate well-defined fluidic channels for reliable resistive pulse sensing of individual objects in electrolyte solution. The technique involves direct sculpting of holes in polymer resist membrane using electron beam lithography, allowing creation of channels with controlled shapes and sizes. These lithographically-defined pores can be utilized in designing single-particle sensors for cell sorting and viral screening.

Summary: This study demonstrates that ADARs play a significant role in regulating the circular transcriptome. ADARs can stabilize or destabilize circRNA secondary structures through editing, and also enhance the binding of RNA-binding proteins. These ADARs-regulated circRNAs are widely expressed in various cancers and have functional relevance to tumorigenesis.

Summary: Solvothermal treatment using glycerol effectively removes chlorine from polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and converts it into solid products. Glycerol can be directly converted into glycidol and can also produce epichlorohydrin through the intermediate 1,3-dichloro-2-propanol. The treated PVC is resinified through an epoxidation reaction with glycidol and epichlorohydrin.

Summary: This study explored the impact of pH on attached microalgae cultivation on nutrient-rich waste. The results showed that the highest microalgal density and carbon-PKE assimilation were achieved in pH 5 medium. The highest lipid productivity was obtained in pH 11 medium, but with the lowest microalgal density. The attached microalgal feedstock harvested from this study met the international biodiesel standards.

Summary: By using partial dielectric coatings, the nonlinear ionic current through a pore can be altered, allowing the pore to behave like a resistor, diode, and bipolar junction transistor. The reasons for asymmetric ion transport in the pore and the relationship between specifically charged surfaces and electroosmotic flow are revealed through numerical simulations. These findings provide a direct approach to modify the electroosmotic-flow-driven ionic current rectification in channel-based devices via dielectric coatings.

Summary: This study aims to develop a sustainable and eco-friendly composite material for food product packaging using existing production technology. Chitin and chitosan were blended with polylactic acid (PLA) pellets, and after extrusion, the composite parts were subjected to various tests and analyses. The addition of chitin and chitosan resulted in reduced tensile and flexural properties but improved ductility. Microscopic examination revealed the presence of voids and decomposed chitin and chitosan. Fourier transform infrared spectra analysis provided insights into the chemical bonding, while X-ray diffraction analysis showed the crystal size and crystallinity index. Lastly, thermogravimetric analysis confirmed the thermal stability of the composite materials. These findings support the use of Chitosan/PLA and Chitin/PLA composites in food product packaging.

Summary: Growing concerns about depleting mineral resources, increased materials wastage, and the need for lightweight structures due to emission control regulations have driven the development of sustainable metal matrix composites. Aluminum and magnesium-based alloys with lower melting temperatures are suitable for recycling applications and are considered as ideal matrix materials for sustainable composites. The recent trend also focuses on utilizing industrial by-products and agricultural wastes as green reinforcements. This article provides insights into the properties of aluminum and magnesium-based sustainable metal matrix composites, with a special emphasis on green reinforcements and processing methods.

Summary: This paper investigates the issue of coverage control in multiple unmanned multirotor (MUM) systems. The existing coverage control algorithm is extended to incorporate a new downward-facing sensor model with pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) capability, as well as new constraints for view angle and collision avoidance. The study examines mobile network coverage among the MUMs and tests the proposed scheme through computer simulations.
