Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the role of serum interleukin-6 (IL-6) levels in the mental status of patients with Empty Nose Syndrome (ENS). The results showed that ENS patients with higher preoperative serum IL-6 levels were more likely to have severe depressive burden. Therefore, timely treatment plan and psychotherapy may be considered for patients with high levels of serum IL-6 after surgical treatment.

Summary: This study aimed to estimate the prevalence of depression among acne patients in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, before and after treatment with isotretinoin. Results showed a significant reduction in depression scores after three and six months of isotretinoin treatment, suggesting that isotretinoin therapy for acne does not increase the risk of depression in the Saudi population. Further studies are needed to confirm these findings.

Summary: This study investigated the performance of BDI-II and HSCL-10 as screening instruments for MDD in AUD patients in treatment. The results showed that both BDI-II and HSCL-10 may be clinically useful screening tools for identifying MDD in AUD patients, with optimal cut-offs higher than commonly used in the general population.

Summary: The study analyzed depression in adults undergoing lumbar fusion using BDI and HAMD-24, finding that preoperative depression may predict worse surgical outcomes. Patients with higher BDI and HAMD-24 scores showed worse preoperative and postoperative outcomes, indicating that depressive symptoms could lead to smaller magnitude of improvement. Preoperative screening for depression using BDI and HAMD-24 scores may help predict postoperative outcomes.

Summary: This study found that patients with higher preoperative levels of high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) were more likely to remain depressive one year after surgery for empty nose syndrome (ENS). Analyzing serum hs-CRP levels can predict the improvement of depressive symptoms in ENS patients after surgery. Patients with higher preoperative hs-CRP levels should be closely monitored postoperatively.

Summary: This study investigated the measurement invariance of depressive symptoms among African American men and women, finding partial metric invariance along with differences in loadings and thresholds. The results suggest that noninvariance may help explain different rates of depressive symptoms, calling for additional consideration when comparing latent mean scores.

Summary: This study analyzed the relationship between depression and clinical outcomes in patients with multilevel cervical spondylotic myelopathy (CSM) after laminoplasty. The results showed that preoperative depression was negatively associated with the changes and recovery rate of the JOA and NDI. Therefore, it is important to monitor and intervene in the psychological state of patients before laminoplasty to improve the effectiveness of the operation.

Summary: Elevated plasma IL-6 levels are associated with depressive symptoms in individuals with COPD, independent of airflow limitation and other risk factors for depression. This suggests that systemic inflammation may play a significant and possibly bidirectional role in depression associated with COPD.

Summary: The study found that the factor structure of the PQ negative symptom subscale includes two subdimensions: social expression and dissociative-depressive experiences, which differs from previous research. Results indicated that the PQ-N and its factors were more strongly correlated with measures of depression and anxiety than with measures of negative symptoms relating to motivation and pleasure.
