Summary: The study found that both physical and mental fatigue are frequently experienced simultaneously in people with non-communicable chronic diseases, but can also occur separately. There is a lack of discussion and treatment for fatigue among healthcare professionals, highlighting the need for increased awareness.

Summary: This paper investigates the repeatable self-healing of composite laminates using a two-step mechanism to repair delamination cracks in CFRP composites. The process involves thermally activating dispersed SMP filaments to close cracked surfaces, and then melting and solidifying the thermoplastic healant dispersed in the thermoset polymer matrix to heal the closed crack. The results showed a substantial increase in fatigue life due to the retardation in delamination growth rate after seven healing cycles.

Summary: A prediction method for S-N curves without fatigue tests is proposed in this study. The method is based on the small crack (m*) growth model and predicts S-N curves for various materials. The predicted curves are compared with experimental data, showing good agreement for conservative predictions.

Summary: In order to evaluate the potential of perennial buckwheat (Fagopyrum cymosum; FC) as a food source, the concentration of rutin was investigated. FC contains high rutin and quercetin concentrations, particularly in the seeds. However, the presence of rutinosidase in FC seeds leads to rutin hydrolysis and bitterness, which can be prevented by controlling the pH and temperature of the dough.

Summary: Fatigue is a common sensation in neurologic illnesses, but the neurophysiological mechanisms underlying it are not well understood. This study conducted two experiments to investigate the changes in cerebellar excitability after a fatiguing task and its association with fatigue. The results showed that reduced cerebellar inhibition after the fatigue task correlated with a milder perception of fatigue. Another experiment found that reduced cerebellar inhibition after fatigue was associated with increased endpoint variability in motor performance. These findings suggest that the cerebellum plays a role in the perception of fatigue, potentially at the expense of motor control.

Summary: Rutin (RUT) was formulated into solid dispersion (SD) using Poloxamer (POL) 407 and 188 as surfactant-based matrices to improve its aqueous solubility and permeability over oral administration. The RUT/SD formulations showed higher amorphous proportion of RUT in the solid state with higher concentration, leading to a significant increase in the dissolution of RUT from 35% to 94-100% within an hour compared to pure RUT. This study demonstrated the successful improvement in the physical characteristics of RUT/SD formulations and their potential for future development in oral formulation.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of decision-making skills on the tactical behavior and physical performance of soccer players under acute physical fatigue. A sample of 24 trained soccer players from two Brazilian clubs was divided into two groups based on their decision-making skills. The results showed that players with high decision-making skills maintained tactical behavior efficiency and had reduced physical performance under acute physical fatigue, while players with low decision-making skills had decreased tactical behavior efficiency but maintained their physical performance.

Summary: This study compared the effects of single High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) and combining HIIT with an incongruent Stroop task on mental and physical fatigue indicators. The results showed that combining the Stroop task with HIIT increased mental fatigue and perceived exertion, but did not affect external (speed) and internal (heart rate) factors. This suggests that mental fatigue can increase the subjective perception of physical exertion, but does not decrease the physical workload during HIIT for tennis players.

Summary: The feasibility of incorporating DK leaf extract in set yoghurt production was assessed, and it was found that DK leaf extract can replace gelatin without compromising organoleptic properties. The study evaluated the physicochemical, sensory, proximate composition, minerals, and microbial quality parameters of DK leaf extract-incorporated yoghurts. The results showed that the 0.8% w/v level of DK leaf extract incorporation could be used as a potent stabilizer in set yoghurt production.

Summary: We conducted a clinical study on patients with chronic hepatitis B (CHB) to compare the severity, metabolic profile, and cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk of patients with and without hepatic steatosis, as well as patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). The study found that a high proportion (59%) of CHB patients had hepatic steatosis. There was a gradual increase in liver function indicators, liver stiffness measurement, metabolic syndrome prevalence, and CVD risk from CHB patients without hepatic steatosis to CHB patients with hepatic steatosis to NAFLD patients. Therefore, CHB patients with hepatic steatosis should be diagnosed and managed according to their metabolic risk factors for better long-term outcomes.

Summary: Different treatment strategies after the progression of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) include continuing immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs), switching to tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs), and stopping anticancer therapy. This study found that continuing ICI treatment and sequential treatment of ICI and TKI were effective strategies. However, intrahepatic growth and new vascular invasion were associated with poorer prognosis.

Summary: With an aging population and the numerous health impacts associated with old age, there is a growing need to find effective anti-aging drugs. In this study, diphenyleneiodonium (DPI) was identified as a potential anti-aging drug that promotes mitochondrial fission. DPI was found to reduce senescence-associated beta-galactosidase positive cells and increase proliferating cells. It also downregulated cell cycle arrest genes and SASP factors. DPI treatment in mice showed reduced senescence markers and improved physical impairments.

Summary: By analyzing national registers in Taiwan, we found that parents who experienced the death of a child had an increased risk of mortality. This risk was higher for bereaved mothers than fathers. The cause of the child's death did not affect the risk, but parents whose child died from unexpected causes were at greater risk. Additionally, the risk was higher when the child was older than 1 year at the time of death.

Summary: Liver functional reserve is critical in managing hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients. This study compared four albumin-based liver reserve models (ALBI/EZ-ALBI/PALBI/PAL) versus MELD in HCC patients undergoing transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) and found that all four albumin-based models were better prognostic tools than MELD scores. Among them, PALBI score was the best model for evaluating liver reserve.

Summary: This hospital-based retrospective cohort study found that the prophylaxis strategy for HBV reactivation in kidney transplant recipients with resolved HBV infection remains unclear. The absence of anti-HBs antibody and the use of high-dose steroids were identified as independent risk factors for HBV reactivation. Therefore, the strategy of HBV antiviral prophylaxis may be defined according to the risk stratification.
