Three configurations of fuel cell and photovoltaic hybrid systems were evaluated in this paper based on economic constraints. In order to estimate the energy cost of each configuration, sources were sized with an analytical approach. An energy based modelling has been developed with Matlab/Simulink to observe evolution of the system during the period of one year. The simulation results were used for optimizing the configuration costs in order to obtain the most cost effective system. An appropriate system sizing based on the proposed optimization solution, showed that a system composed with a photovoltaic generator, a fuel cell, an electrolizer and a battery can deliver energy in a stand-alone installation with an acceptable cost. Field-oriented control strategy for double-stator single-rotor and double-rotor single-stator permanent magnet machine: Design and operation

Aymen Flah, Irfan Ahmad Khan, Anshul Agarwal, Lassaad Sbita, Marcelo Godoy Simoes

Summary: The electric vehicle industry is seeking advanced traction systems to enhance performance and reliability. Magnetic materials are crucial for the performance specifications of brushless DC or AC machines, and advancements in power electronic devices have made AC motors more suitable for EVs and allowed for advanced topology circuits to fit machines with two rotors or two stators. This paper presents two configurations of electrical machine control for EVs, discusses their pros and cons, and develops mathematical models to enhance a Field Oriented Control (FOC) strategy through MATLAB-based simulations.

Analysis of Stationary- and Synchronous-Reference Frames for Three-Phase Three-Wire Grid-Connected Converter AC Current Regulators

Israel D. L. Costa, Danilo I. Brandao, Lourenco Matakas Junior, Marcelo G. Simoes, Lenin M. F. Morais

Summary: This paper compares the effects of different reference frames on AC linear current regulators for three-phase three-wire voltage source converters, finding that the dq-frame has the highest computational effort and inferior performance under negative-sequence voltage disturbances, but superior performance under positive-sequence voltages. In contrast, the abc frame has the lowest computational effort due to its straightforward implementation, with similar results in terms of steady-state and transient behavior, while the alpha beta-frame is an intermediate solution in terms of computational cost.

Summary: This paper focuses on the modeling and control of non-isolated, non-inverting four-switch buck-boost synchronous converters in DC microgrids. The research demonstrates the efficient operation of the power converter both independently and in DC microgrids. Sliding mode control is utilized as the controlling mechanism to deal with uncertainties and non-linearities. The MATLAB simulation results successfully exhibit precise reference tracking and robust stability of the DC-DC converters in different operating modes of the microgrid structure.
