Summary: The development of biodiesel as an alternative to fossil fuels has been driven by the detrimental impact of fossil fuel utilization on the environment. The production of biodiesel involves transesterification, with factors such as feedstock and catalyst type and amount, alcohol-to-feedstock ratio, and reaction conditions affecting the quantity and quality of biodiesel produced. Recent studies have focused on improving the efficiency of biodiesel reactors for commercial production.

Summary: A membrane reactor (MR) using a 1,2-bis(triethoxysilyl)acetylene (BTESA)-derived organosilica membrane was applied for transesterification reaction by extracting methanol (MeOH). The BTESA membrane exhibited high MeOH flux and separation factor. The performances of different MR configurations were compared and the gas-phase plug flow MR by vapor permeation (PF-VPMR) showed potential in preventing concentration polarization.

Summary: A new primary & secondary helical-tube reactor (P&SHR) is proposed to simplify the reactor structure and improve hydriding rate and heat transfer efficiency. The results demonstrate that P&SHR has outstanding H2 uptake performance, reaching 99% saturated H2 absorption capacity in less than 500 seconds. Sensitivity analysis reveals the optimal structural parameters for P&SHR, and investigation of operation parameters confirms the beneficial effects of higher H2 pressure and lower fluid temperature.

Summary: In this study, a liquid-phase capillary discharge plasma reactor was developed for the continuous production of biodiesel from sunflower oil at ambient temperature and pressure. The response surface method (RSM) was used to optimize FAME content by examining four main operational parameters. The results showed that the reactor could continuously produce 95.9% methyl ester content with high conversion efficiency at low temperatures and with minimum inputs compared to common methods.

Summary: The aim of this paper is to analyze the performance of the air gap membrane distillation (AGMD) process for the separation of HCl/Water mixture using Taguchi optimization approach and artificial neural network (ANN) model. The experimental data collected from the AGMD lab-scale setup show that feed temperature and air gap thickness have the highest impact on permeate flux, while feed flow rate and cooling water temperature have moderate effects. The developed ANN model fits well with experimental data.
