Summary: BackgroundMusic therapy has been recognized as an effective support for people with dementia, but there is a need for accessible ways for caregivers to learn music-therapy based strategies. The MATCH project aims to address this by creating a mobile application that can train family caregivers. Training material for the MATCH app was developed and validated through feedback from music therapists and family caregivers.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the associations of caregiver burden in informal caregivers of persons living with dementia (PLwD) with perceived social support, positive caregiving experience, and applying therapeutic communication methods. The results showed that higher perceived social support, positive caregiving experience, and caregiving intensity were significantly associated with lower caregiver burden. The associations between caregiver burden and applying two therapeutic communication methods were not significant.

Summary: This study conducted a systematic review of high-quality randomized controlled trials published between 2009 and 2018 in English or German language, focusing on mental health interventions for informal caregivers of persons living with dementia. The results showed that cognitive behavioural approaches were most beneficial in reducing depressive symptoms, while leisure and physical activity interventions also showed some positive effects in reducing subjective caregiver burden. More targeted interventions for specific subgroups of informal dementia caregivers may help improve effectiveness in the future.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the prevalence of grief disorders among families of patients with cancer, finding that the pooled prevalence rate was estimated at 14.2%. Factors like gender, religious beliefs, relationship to the deceased, and cancer type were associated with higher prevalence rates. Educational levels, study locations, diagnosis tools, time post-after loss, and study methods did not seem to affect the prevalence of grief disorders in families of cancer patients.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the prevalence of anticipatory grief disorders in caregivers of persons with a life-threatening illness. The findings revealed a relatively high overall prevalence of anticipatory grief, with higher rates among female and married caregivers. This suggests the need for providing bereavement support, educational programs, and relevant resources to caregivers even before the actual loss.
